Since CC talked about DD's past, I guessed twas horrible, then twas revealed he was(is) a CD. This chapter revealed more and I came up with a possible story about his past.
He was the heir to the Don Quixote family and was to replace his dad as 1 of the top CDs. His mom possibly was forced to marry the CD (we've seen them taking women at will) and died for whatever reasons (possibly showed displeasure for something and was killed). Doflamingo bore that grudge against his dad and lived with the bitterness. At 10, he killed his dad (maybe mistakenly but still kinda connected to the bitterness).
This act made other CDs punish him severly but they cant remove his right from him though. He must have undergone several punishments and torture, despised in Mariejois and treated like scum. He was possibly isolated or possibly partially exiled from their midst. He wasn't to call himself a CD but still he isn't just a normal peasant.
Later they approached him with a deal to live outside Mariejois as a pirate and connect them to the underground pirate community since he is the only one qualified for it. They promised to protect him with their powers and let him do the dirty jobs which the exalted CDs cant just do. He took the proporsal and decided to take the Kingdom which once belonged to Don Quixote and the CDs permitted him too. They also had a hand in making him a Schichibukai though he is obviously strong enough for it. The CP0 has always covered up his dirty deals and he has maintained his pact with the CD all this while.
Just a possibility about his past though.... What's your opinion?
