Alone both would lose, but together they can both keep going at Kakashi (keeping him at bay) and when Gaara has enough sand, overwhelm him.

Gaara and Lee take this mid difficulty.

Kakashi's stamina in part one was pretty bad which means he can't opt for many clone feints or usage of long range ninjutsu. Kakashi should be able to dodge sand attacks just fine but with gated Lee on the loose, Kakashi's ability to keep up with Gaara's attacks diminishes as he has to focus on Lee's movements, which are faster than his own.
