Hi guys.

I've seen a lot of people saying that DBZ sucks because it has a bad plot and bad characters. I'd like to talk a little bit about this, and show you a more "critic" point of view regarding this topic, focusing on how the characters were written. It's not very critic, as I didn't/don't have time to go too deep in this, but I tried.

I'll apologize for the grammar now, as I was talking to 5 people and studying 2 different subjects when I wrote this.

Dbz is a great anime.

Yeah, the plot isn't very developted, that's common sense. It's always a stronger villain that wants to take over the universe or destroy everything.

However, the characters are well written. Goku is not very deep, but he has a solid goal of being as strong as he can be so he can always protect the earth.

Vegeta was very well handled during the majin buu saga, specially. To see vegeta, the prince of all sayans, going against his pride to believe in goku's power, and even take earth as his home. To see vegeta being jealous of goku's power, and submiting himself to babidi, so he could become what he previously was, that was epic
And at last, to see vegeta truly acknowledging goku's power in the end. That was just perfect.

We also have gohan... a peaceful kid, who did not want to fight. However, he finds himself the responsable for earth's protection. Unaware of his true power, gohan struggles to rain. But at last, he learns how to use them. Once afraid of his powers, he then was able to become a great fighter, once saving earth from the greatest danger in the time.

We have piccolo... once known as a demon, at first, he followed the steps of his "father", trying to destroy the planet and goku. After being defeated though, he trains to surpass his enemy. However, when a greatest danger than his own arrives on earth, he had to team up with his enemy to defeat it.
Finding out that evne more powerful enemies are comming, he had to train his enemy's son, so that the kid can awake his power, and protect the earth. Then, he starts to develop "feelings" towards the kid. The kid becomes his pupil... and his friend. A friend who was worth sacrificing his own life for.
Further on, piccolo learns more about his origins. Then, he also becomes a protector of earth, and a friend of the z warriors.

I could write more about the others, but as you can see, these 4, they were the main chars in dbz. And they were very well written and very weel handled as well.

Dbz may not have a great plot, but it has great chars and EPIC battles. The battles I don't need to describe.

Thanks for the attention

Dbz is great and all, but in the end, it'll always be Digimon > Dbz + Any manga

People have different opinions man, that's all there is to it. Not everyone will view a series in the same light, some people choose to purposely not view things the same. DBZ was my favorite series growing up and I still get feels when I watch it again. For other people, not so much.

I don't understand why DBZ has been becoming a popular topic around NB in terms of likeness so much lately.

A weak story is a weak story. Yes, it has epic fights and some cool characters, but it doesn't change the fact that the story is mediocre.

Stop this opinions thing. Of course, some people will like dbz, for exemple, some want.
But what dictates it's quality it's not taste of people, it's a critical analysis of the characteristics of the object.

There's a difference between you not liking somethign and something being bad.

Just because you think something is of good quality, doesn't mean others will. It's a matter of personal taste, an argument you won't win with anyone

Besides, when it comes to NB and DBZ, the distaste is a minority around here (no offense to you guys who aren't fans). But you're pretty much making a thread for 5-10 people out of the 400 + users online.

Yeah, the story is weak, as I said. However, there are other things that can improve the general quality of a creation.

My point is: having a weak story isn't enough to say that dbz sucks. You have to analyse the other characteristics as well

It's not simply "thinking" it's good. It's analysing it. A good criticisms is made by the most impartial analysis of an objects' characteristics possible.
For that analysis to be made, it's required an advanced level of argumentative skills and understanding of general(accepted by most) concepts

Basically, it's a debate. And as always, the one who is able to pull more argurments "wins".

So, no. It's not about opinions, or ideas alone. People like to say this because they can't discuss. The statement "it's an opinion, itas all opinion" is flawed and weak.

So do you think that you analyzing the anime will make people say it's good despite them not liking it before? No. You can analyze it all you want. Still won't change a person's opinion in the slightest. Like I said, people care about what appeals to them, not how an anime may seem from a couple of analytical perspectives, whether it's a literary standpoint, the greatness of characters or even the morals and themes established in the anime. If it doesn't appeal the the individual, the individual won't care and probably won't like it. So you can call my logic flawed all you like but it still stands. To a person who isn't a fan, they won't give two shits about your analysis of the anime.
