I see this coming, sooner rather than later. I think besides becoming Hokage, Sasuke has his own goals. Remember the first line we got out of him. He plans to restore his clan. To Sasuke his clan is everything, his family is everything. I don't think what he read on the Stone Tablet put his mind at ease. Hashirama is a pathetic hypocrite to someone like Sasuke. His words were wasted.

In the end Sasuke wants to kill Madara and Obito for betraying his clan. Obito killed many of his clansmen. Madara betrayed the clan with the curse of hatred. It caused Itachi's suffering and his own. In the end, Sasuke does not give a shit about saving the world. He will kill the TBs, kill Kurama and probably still intends to kill Naruto.

The Sage is complicit in this. We know he's watched his own sons fight across the aeons. At very least the Sage = Jesus motif is 100% out the window. No benevolent force watches its own family fight for that long. We have to, as fans, except that at very least the Sage is morally ambiguous. And that Sasuke has his own agenda.

One far different from Naruto and his stupid little friends.

No, Sasuke is pure.
He's neither good nor bad, he's just a man out seeking and completing his goals left and right.
Weather its good or not he doesn't care, Madara is a threat to his current goal so he will be cut down.

He said he would be the one to cut down the past...could mean Naruto and or Madara at that.

Honestly, it would just make me go back to hating Sasuke again. I mean, for the love of Shinju, Kishi, pick a side for your character already.

If you asked me before he met with the sage, I would have definitely agree. Look at the scan below, when Obito tried to kill Naruto and Sasuke saved him. This is what he said:

But after talking with the sage and answering his question to the sage's "standards", i'm not so sure anymore. But I definitely don't think he's completely good. Otherwise it would have been easy to state his goals to Kakashi. Maybe he wants to destroy all the bijuu because that is what he thinks started all these wars. Just have to wait and see I guess.

Way I see it this is pretty simple.

Naruto is a tool. Naruto's father was a tool, and a pathetic failure at that. He defends Konoha in spite of all of its absolutely evil and idiotic missteps throughout history (killing Nagato's parents, Uchiha clan massacre, the Madara-Hashirama conflicts and the list goes on). People like Naruto because they're also weak, stupid and idealistic.

In the end, people like him aren't cut out to be leaders. Naruto should not live through the end of this manga. It's a terrible lesson to teach young children that it's OK to be a blockhead and rely on others to fix your problems. Naruto didn't work for anything, he just relied on a demonic fox, his friends or some Jesus allegory.

I think in the end Naruto should die or become the new Sage. Sasuke should be the Hokage, and Naruto should die.

OT:

Sasuke's goals...

"I'll restore my clan"

"I'll burn down this world of lies"

"I'll delete the past"

These are not the words of someone that is mentally balanced, obviously. But Sasuke doesn't intend to just go along with Naruto and his stupid little friends goals. That's been made obvious by Shikamaru and Kakashi's suspicious of him, plus Orochimaru keeps thinking to himself about what Sasuke will decide. Ominous foreshadowing be obvious, yo.

I must hand it to you, I've never seen a person have so many points go over his head so easily. Like, all the points of an entire manga. In a few paragraphs. I'm impressed.

What do you think "*I* will destroy the *past*" means in the context of Naruto? That line of Sasuke's has always been a bit ambiguous to me.

Yep, I agree. Maybe he is just impersonating the character on his avatar, or something.

I don't think Naruto will defeat Sasuke, or that he's capable of it. That said I doubt they'll fight at full power... Because at this point if they did they might actually destroy the entire planet. I do think Sasuke has goals that go beyond the current fight with Madara. There's been a lot of foreshadowing to that effect by Kakashi/Shikamaru and Sasuke's own ambiguous statements. Plus Itachi "left Sasuke" to Naruto... So. Chances are pretty high there's some unresolved plot left for Sauce's ambitions.
