Why is shisui all of a sudden a relevant character

This guy was so irrelevant that he was only briefly mentioned a few times in the series. Now he is in the next Naruto game, was in an episode of filler, is getting mentioned several times on the base. He still has just as much impact on the story as he did before all this so why is he getting so much attention?

Shisui was Itachi's friend and rival who shared the same ideals and inspired him. He also possessed the strongest genjutsu that Danzou stole and used and that Itachi used to escape edo tensei and fight and defeat Kabuto as well as prevent himself from fighting Naruto.
