[Question] What is a Pirate King!?

Simple Question...

What is the Pirate King and what all does it entail?

Is it just a title like "heavy weight champ" or are there any type of obligations/responsibilities that come with it?

Luffy wants to be King of the Pirates. His personality however, seems to be that of a leaf in the breeze... which is terrific for the sake exploration and adventure, but horrible for someone with any level of authority or large amount of responsibility. I don't even think he's that good of a captain.. Nami seems like a better fit. I'm not clear on what exactly "king of the pirates" entails but i'm pretty sure there's more to it than being able to say you (can) beat up everyone who matters. With that being said it's really hard to say what would become of Luffy if not king since he's so set on it now.. granted we still have a long way to go and there may even be another time skip. They say Luffy wants freedom.. but don't technically the warlords have more freedom? Considering Pirate king is the most wanted man in the world.

I usually hear that Whitebeard was "the closest" to becoming the King after Roger, but what stopped him? I'm assuming there isn't an official coronation or crowning or anything like that..

That's why Luffy wants to be the pirate king in the first place. Freedom.
That's also what Roger wanted.

And about Warlords having more freedom:

I would think seeing the Pirate King is the most wanted he's also one of the most feared. And when you fear one, you tend to stay away from them. You have to be, like, the strongest man in the world to be the pirate king. No one will bother you, even the marines aren't stupid enough to try to take down the king without a SHIIITTTT ton of backup.

Wouldn't it be the man with the least freedom? Particularly vs The Gov't and other Big name Pirates... i'd much sooner ignore some no-bounty group of pirates but, who could ignore The Pirate King? His Freedom would blow if everyone is trying to kill/capture you...

Not at all. The only man who can be PK is the man who has traveled all the seas freely, and made it to Raftel. It makes sense because if the PK was the most wanted man in the world, that means he broke all the WG's rules, he did what he wanted to do, no matter who said different.

Heyyy. You're getting it wrong man. First things first, about Whitebeard, he is one of the four emperors and the four emperors are on stale mate in search for the one piece. The four emperors can't act because there would be an unbalance in the new world if that would happen.

Since finding the one piece is the main goal of the new age of pirates which Gol D. Roger left, the one who'll find it would be entitled the pirate king. The main issue now is not about the title Pirate King but the "One Piece". Only Gol D. Roger and his crew knew about it. When Rayleigh is asked about the one piece, he was about to say something to it but Luffy stopped him and said that he would quit being a pirate if Rayleigh will say it.

Eh I suppose that makes sense but I sincerely believe that two of the 4 emperors could team up and work out a plot that takes out PK. Or if the govt could pin point the PK location and be sure he's not surrounded by allies/obstacles they could toss out like 2 admirals and some fodder to take out whitebeard. As I recall, Marco Was the only one in his crew that could hold his own vs admin. If they took him out and cornered WB I think they would have a pretty good shot taking him down. Especially in a random encounter or if the crew isn't all together or something like that.

My point is, because you're a big deal, people will always be planning and plotting to take you down. As soon as u slip up and have one of your elites get captured or something like that, you have yourself a "war of the best" on your hands

The Pirate King is not to do with any power or status.
The Pirate King has been stated numerous times to be the man with the most freedom on the sea and who has travelled all over it.
Like you said, Luffy wants freedom, perfect title for him.

The pirate king wont slip up! He has that tittle for a reason. They're just gonna get dey asses whooped. Because if he is a king who wants freedom, like Luffy and Roger, his will shall keep him stong and unbeatable. But if its a king like Black Beard, then he'll easily be taken down by someone like Luffy who wants to be the king for the real reason: freedom. I dun know. The king is the strongest man out there, and that has to mean he beat everyone that challenged him—of course their is going to come a time where his opponent might win. But its a very unlikely chancee.

Well, theres many people that have a definition of "Pirate King" for Luffy, The freest man in the world for Blackbeared I guess the king of the world. for Buggy riches man in the world. It's depends bro.

yea... was having trouble connecting the dots between ultimate freedom and super fugitive/primary target. didn't see how those could go together. But i guess it's not the title that makes you free it's how you earned it.
