Is Kishi a good writer

Its another manga written by Kishimoto, Naruto isn't the only manga he has written.

This.
"Mario" is a one-shot manga Kishimoto created even before Naruto...
And he managed to create a very unique and well-written female character there.

Because he was trying to show how godly Naruto's powers are. And had he not saved Gai and just restored Kakashi's eye people would have complained Kishi is a bad write that Naruto didnt save Gai.

I was glad that Guy survived, Guy is great!! Right now I'm thinking Kishi's one of the greatest writers ever, going off some of the quotes the characters have made, and some of the hilarious designs of the characters.

That doesn't tell us anything about his writing.....For knowing a writer's ability, u need to see how he either surprises the reader or rouses the emotions of the reader or makes the reader think and predict about the upcoming events himself etc ..
Many writers change certain set rules in their work to surprise the reader or to showcase something new whose rules are not confined by the older manga rules itself.
For example....Luffy should have died after getting sucked dry twice by crocodile but Oda saved him twice miraculously to display Luffy's luck and for the entertainment of the reader....in Gai's case it was to display the new powers (yang related) of Naruto to give the readers a shock regarding the difference in his powers after gaining a power up!! U_U

In part 1 his writing was good.. in part 2 in went downhill because of lack of taijutsu, lack of development for the side characters, an atrocious war arc(saved by Madara) and Sasuke turning good.

As Itachi Minato said, I think Kishi is a good writer however he has obviously become bored from Naruto. It seems to me that he tries to finish the manga as quickly as he can and in this way lots of plot holes form. Can't blame him, he is working on this for more than 10 years probably.

Meh. I'll judge Naruto as a series, because Kishi might of written other stuff which is actually good.

Theme contradiction, retcons, non-existent character development for several supporting characters, Sakura, way too convenient plot devices, way too cliche, even for Shonen

It's a fun series to read but from a writing stand-point, I don't think it's good at all. There are a few redeeming qualities of it which are the reason I'm still reading [that and it's near the end, might as well ride it out]

In short: Think about how many instances we get threads calling stuff out and the majority of the replies is simply "PnJ" - Damage control. What it should be is "Bad writing"

I think Naruto is a good concept but the majority of the time its not executed that well.
