Everything was Madara's plan. Obito had been lied by Madara that reality is just filled with pain and suffering.

This, man, some ninjas had it worse than Obito yet didn't go on murderous rampages and threaten new born babies. I'm still not convinced that Obito's heel face turns were realistic, the way Kishi writes them, and being manipulated is no excuse for becoming a murderous/genocidal psychopath :|

Edit: and no, I'm no hater, I just dislike this trend in Kishi's writing that villains can be "redeemed". I prefer villains to stay, and die like, villains.
