Don't. Refrain from using chemical crap. It'll just weaken your immune system on the long run.

Try smoke weed right before you go to bed. That's a good natural remedy for insomnia.

And you think cannabis is any better?

It's worse. It does the same plus a whole lot more including shortening one's lifespan, deteriorating cognition and ruining your lungs.

That might be the case for people that abuse the substance. I'm talking about occassionally using it to reduce reuma pain or insomnia. Do your homework. Don't let a century of anti-marijuana propaganda cloud your judgement.

So I've heard that a lack of sleep can lead to premature deaths later in life. This whole semester I haven't been getting much sleep, typically 4-6 hrs. a night and 9-12 hrs. once a weekend. In the past few weeks however, I've started running on 4 hrs., and since last week mostly just 0-2 hrs. of sleep a night. I get really tired and drink a lot of coffee to compensate. Anyway, this really ****ed up my system and I can't get back on track. It's difficult to go to bed, or find motivation to get my work done early so I CAN sleep.... Is this bad?

(My parents have threatened to take my laptop and phone away from me, so I need to fix this, but it's just so difficult. >.<)

But to me it seems like your procrastination is the root of the problem.
If ya stay up for 30 hours straight it should fix it.

Do not take "sleeping pills".
Now i am addicted to this sleeping pills.

The keyword is R.E.M. (search wiki, more info)
One REM cycle is 1.5hr.
So if one take 5 REM cycle = 5 x 1.5 = 7.5hrs
It being said that one should sleep 8 hrs.
The 0.5hr is for you to go into sleeping mode.
Doctor normally look at the eyes first.
Sakura did that on Kankuro.

Light exercise. Warm milk.
When going to Sleep mode, do breath in & out, slowing and Close your eyes.
When the cycle is not complete (any number of sleep cycle) Or the person tend to tire and still feel sleeping.
Then lay down on the bed, with eyes close for a while. You can feel that you can be awake.
