Looking at the manga from part 1, pre-war and War Arc....Maito Guy obviously engaged in most deadly battles compared to all other characters....
Here are some feats that might interest you
1. Guy vs Itachi
2. Guy vs Kisame
3. Guy vs copy of himself
4. Guy vs Kisame part 2
5. Guy vs Kinpachi
6. Guy vs 6 tails
7. Guy vs 3 tails
8. Guy vs Jinchuriki Madara 1 on 1
All these feats put together have been on 6th to 8th level of raw Taijustsu
against these deadly opponents.

Hey, if you are the style of fighter that has to injure or hurt yourself to get stronger to match your opponent , of course every battle is exceptionally deadly for you..

In every battle with a decent opponent , Guy ALWAYS gets hurt in some way due to his gates

5th Gate , Muscles tear
6th Gate , Body Gets much more damge
7th Gate , Can't even move his body and touching him with a finger makes him scream and cry bloody murder
(And most of the time , the 7th gate is required to kill akatsuki members as most of the time the 6th gate is insuffiecent so most of the time , Gai is so hurt that he is incapciated after the battle)
8th Gate , His body is burnt to oblivion

If your fighting style revolves around beating yourself up for more fighting power , Every Battle with an opponent would be DEADLY

A moot point is one up for debate. Well we are now debating.

Anyway, Trolling aside, Guy has barely ever fought without his gates, and when he does. He fights for a few moments and then if he doesn't kill his opponent, and he never does, he remains vulnerable or in the most recent case, should die.

Guy fought well, but he has not fought the toughest fights, nor has he won them.

What's the point of killing yourself, every battle, to win? Without his gates he's not that good of a fighter. No genjutsu, doujutsu, ninjutsu, etc..
