What's everyone top 40 one piece character list? I'm just curious because I'm working on one right now but I'm a bit stuck on how to rank character's from 20-40.

) and I had fun thinking about it so I thought why not make my top 20 characters of OP. This one was even harder to make since there are so many awesome characters in the world of One Piece. But since narrowing it down to 20 is so hard I had to cheat a bit on my no. 1 spot and some of the spots could change very fast, nevertheless this is a rough top 20 fav characters list for me:First of a shout-out for the ones I really wanted to make the cut but were just left out:
Buggy, Ivankov, Bartolomeo and Kizaru (this is more of a testimony of how awesome OP characters are seeing that this awesome characters are left out of a top 20 list)

20. Marco
The first commander of the WB pirates. He has one fo my fav fruits, I mean the PHOENIX
, and a blue fire one at that. I also like his design. But what made him one of my fav was (predictably) the MF arc, going blow for blow with the Admirals he might be slightly below them but he's still epic. My fav moment was him kicking Kizaru. I also like the relationship he had with Ace and his respect for the great WB. I hope we get to see him do something again, hopefully at the end when they join Luffy's side. And one other moment with Marco that I loved was him and Shanks honoring the late Ace and Whitebeard.

19. Trafalgar Law
Probably most of you rank him higher on you lists but I don't think 19 is low for a list of One Piece characters. He is indeed awesome and once again has an awesome fruit. The 690 chapter was pure epicnes, that slash! but even more so his speech. That was (so far) my favorite moment of Law. I think I would have rated him higher if he wasn't introduced together with the other Supernovas, Idk what it is with them but when I first saw them they somhow seemed un One Pieceish, I have no idea how else to explain them, though he did more than make up for that after the TS. I like his design and personality and ofc the hat. His alliance with the SHs also gives him some points.

18. Doquixote Doflamingo
An epic, insane, villainous mastermind. Not to mention even his frown is epic, not to mention his pace. Many fans speculated him being a noble and we were right. He was introduced in volume 25 and his first bounty first threw me out of the seat, it was ridiculously high for Jaya arc. After that came Sabaody and the Smile foreshadowing and after that MF. Not to mention his status in the underworld and his connection to Kaido and his overall status and soft power he has. Hi crew is ridiculously epic and he is so far one fo the best arc villains and if we indeed get a Luffy v Doflamingo ... just OMFG!!!

17. Akainu
First of let me say I don't like him for what he did to Ace and him playing dirty, but as a character he is awesome. He is the worse enemy of Luffy's atm for what he did to Ace, not to mention that he leads the Marines and is one of the key players in the world govt. His justice is extreme and it shows how going too far in any direction can be harmful. Too bad we never got to see (so far ) the fight between him and Aokiji. I also think it's neat how his name ''Sakazuki'' means ''sake-cup''. I think he could potentially make an epic final fight for Luffy but that is too far off to talk about atm.

16. Fujitora
I honestly don't know what it is about him that made me love him right of the bat. He seems an honest old man but that remains to be seen. I think the main reason is the DF, I was waiting for a gravity manipulating power for almost 11 years!! And the fact that an admiral has it just makes everything even more epic. His goal also makes me excited, as well as his mention of the reverie, not to mention the Fujitora v Law v Dofy. The Wisteria Tiger made the entire Dressrosa arc one level better than it would have been without him.
I honestly don't know what it is about him that made me love him right of the bat. He seems an honest old man but that remains to be seen. 15. Smoker
Coby aside he is Luffy's main Marine rival and even though he has had some downs post TS he is still my no. 15. I like the idea of a Marine rival chasing after Luffy and I like that a Marine has a strong (and a bit more correct) sense of Justice, he usually knows the right thing to do and is even willing to team up with his enemies (which he respects) to defeat the greater evil ... something Sakazuki lacks. I have hoped for a long time that he might at some point become a revolutionary under the reason that he wants to reform the corrupt Marines and WG for the better. Idk whether he would do that but on the other side that would remove him as a Marine rival to Luffy so I am kinda torn about that and I think I would like either choice.

14. Mihawk
The worlds strongest swordsman and the first Sichibukai. He was the first taste we got of the power of the endgame of OP. He has a great personality (imo) and a great design for a swordsman. He is Zoro's goal and whatever may happen (whether they get to fight or not) I think he will remain Zoro's dream, even if Shiliew (or whoever) gets to be Zoro's final opponent. He is also quite mysterious and should imo be one of the strongest atm. There is also his (let's call it) friendship with Shanks. I also liked his relaxed ownage in the MF war and his little comment on Luffy and his power.

13. Crocodile
The first major Villain and even though I like Luffy v Lucci better I do think he is a better character. I loved him in Alabasta, the quintessential villain mastermind that wants to achieve a coup and assemble an army to take on the world. The ending of Alabasta was perfect with his fight with Luffy and even his goal of the ancient weapon (which come in play later and are still to this day a mystery). And than he made a comeback in ID and MF and as Luffy's ''ally''. Now he is on the loose again and I hope he gets to play a big part in the story again. He was the first great enemy in the first big arc and later made an epic comeback ... you just gotta love him!

12. Bon Kurei (Mr. 2)
The Okama himself. I really don't know what to say here, I just love the guy, he's funny, he's hilarious and he's ridiculous and on top of that he's ludicrous.

11. Blackbeard (Marshall D Teach)
He's ridiculous and he's epic ... he's a D. He is abnormally overpowered (or has the potential for it) with two of the most OPd DFs so far. He is a bit different than a normal D but his general personality is still weird for what he is (and that's why he's so great). He is the real pirate of OP, the big villainous figure that is ever-present as the story is told and yet everyone is still guessing whether that will actually turn out to be the case. Will it be him or the WG? I do think his turn will come before the WG's. He is the epic instigator that brought about the epicness that surrounded Ace's execution.

10. Silvers Rayleigh
Luffy's TS mentor, the first mate of Roger himself. He gave us some pretty epic info on Sabaody and an epic fight against Kizaru. He thought Luffy haki and he was one of the Legends of the previous era. I hope we get to see him reveal some more information in the future. He is also the one that suggested the TS so it is partly due to him that we will get to see the epicness of the NW. First shown to us in chapter 19 and formally introduced at the big 500 mark in the ''Embers of History''

The White to the Black, the Edward to the Teach. The epic man that could destroy the world, the era named Whitebeard may be over but the Legend will never be forgotten!

8. Gol D Roger (The Pirate King)
By now you can see that I have a fondness for legends so here is another one. The Pirate King himself the man that started this great and epic story! He was the king, he started the great pirate era, he had the One Piece but he died before he could finish and take on the world he is waiting for the one who does, although Luffy's might find a different answer he will learn what Roger knew and he will challenge the world.

He is relaxed and he is lazy (like a cartoon of me really) but he has his priorities in order and steps up when it counts. He is the ice man, my fav element, the cold, the winter ... He is the first Admiral introduced to us and he showed Luffy how powerless he is before the greats of the One Piece world, he annihilated him completely and that made Luffy think (...). He is my no. 1 wish to see as a revolutionary, if that happened I might actually get a heart attack. Anyway the Blue Pheasant is no more, now he is a lone traveler and he will be playing a big role in the events to come.

The Grandpa, The Legend Of The Marines. He is the Marine equivalent of Roger. But most importantly he is Luffy's grandpa, he is a lot like Luffy and I love how he too (even in the corrupt Marines) maintains a high level of authority and respect with a funny and borderline childish mannerism, his men respect him even if he lets them boss him around. When he first arrived he had some pretty epic info for us, at the post Enies Lobby arc, that is one of the moments that show us the great story above the adventure we see now.

The man that inspired Luffy to become a pirate, to become a king. The man that clashed with Whitebeard and the man that stopped the War. He is Luffy's friend and he is in Luffy's way to the top. A fan-favorite. A red headed badass. He is a character who's mere appearance could make any reat OP fan fangasm in an instant. The main reason I like Shanks is that he is sort of the guy behind Luffy. His captain chose him and gave him the hat but than Shanks chose Roger's successor, he bet everything on the new age, he bet everything on Luffy. Also ... you know ... he gave him the Hat!

He wants to turn the world of One Piece on its head. He was introduced in the big 100 and his appearance ended the ''set-up'' of the story of OP and began the legend in the ever-so aptly named ''The Legend Begins''. He is the holy grail of mysterious characters and he will most likely have a key role in the biggest events in the story of OP.

Luffy's brother. Loved him in the flashback and the latest arc didn't exactly tarnish his reputation as a character. I think the one thing that is special about him is his connection to Luffy. He grew up with Luffy and they became brothers. And I absolutely love him in Dressrosa, now he is in the tournament and I can't wait to see what happens next. Also the fact that he was with Dragon all these years just makes him more interesting. He completely stole the show after 731 and he is still atm the center of attention for most OP fans. I do admit though that if I made this list before 731, though he would have been in the top 10, he would not be at no. 3.

2. Portgas D Ace
Well seeing how no. 3 was Luffy's brother this one was completely obvious. I love Ace as a character and the main reason, just like with Sabo, is his connection to Luffy and teir childhood together. But he isn't just Luffy's brother, he is also Roger's son and a part of the WB pirates. And his character was the centerpiece of the best moment of One Piece (for me), that was chapter 574, it was the most shocking chapter and it was the most dramatic one. But putting his death aside my fav moment of Ace was actually the time we get to really see him for the first time, in Alabasta, the whole debacle with Luffy, Ace and Smoker ... that is still one of my favorite moments in the manga.

Yes I am including her in here. Sue me. I like her but Oda kinda made my decision on who to put in the last place when she didn't join. Though on this list I would prefer not to use the term '' last place'' or ''least fav''. Anyway, she was a great character all through Alabasta. She was a real part of the group and her actions during Alabasta made her one of my favs. But the best moment with her is probably her parting from the SHs in one of the (imo) most iconic scenes of OP.

9. Brook
The next one is the Soul King. He has an amazing backstory, I loved how it tied in with the SHs entrance into GL and Laboon. He is a skeleton musician an an everlasting quest for panties. The reason I like all the SHs is their dynamic as Nakama and their relationships so since I'm already saying that here I might describe some of them very briefly.

8. Franky
the SUUUUUUPEEER cola man! The time he joined and Robin's grab was probably the funniest moment for me (in the anime at least). He also has an awesome voice actor. I liked how he spent the TS in the lab of Vegapunk. I could go on and on about my fav moments of the SHs but I think you know them all.

She perhaps had the most interesting TS story and I can't wait until she starts talking about it. Ok this one turned out to be impossible, I just can't rank them. They are the original ones from the East Blue. It would be pointless for me to try and summarize why it is so, I could probably write all day, but if you have been reading OP I'm sure you know.

What kind of list? Best characters? Strongest? I've got lists for both. Can't be bothered to post them both though!

Recently I made a top 10 fav arcs thread (You must be registered for see links) and I had fun thinking about it so I thought why not make my top 20 characters of OP. This one was even harder to make since there are so many awesome characters in the world of One Piece. But since narrowing it down to 20 is so hard I had to cheat a bit on my no. 1 spot and some of the spots could change very fast, nevertheless this is a rough top 20 fav characters list for me:
First of a shout-out for the ones I really wanted to make the cut but were just left out:
Buggy, Ivankov, Bartolomeo and Kizaru (this is more of a testimony of how awesome OP characters are seeing that this awesome characters are left out of a top 20 list)

20. Marco
The first commander of the WB pirates. He has one fo my fav fruits, I mean the PHOENIX

19. Trafalgar Law
Probably most of you rank him higher on you lists but I don't think 19 is low for a list of One Piece characters. He is indeed awesome and once again has an awesome fruit. The 690 chapter was pure epicnes, that slash! but even more so his speech. That was (so far) my favorite moment of Law. I think I would have rated him higher if he wasn't introduced together with the other Supernovas, Idk what it is with them but when I first saw them they somhow seemed un One Pieceish, I have no idea how else to explain them, though he did more than make up for that after the TS. I like his design and personality and ofc the hat. His alliance with the SHs also gives him some points.

18. Doquixote Doflamingo
An epic, insane, villainous mastermind. Not to mention even his frown is epic, not to mention his pace. Many fans speculated him being a noble and we were right. He was introduced in volume 25 and his first bounty first threw me out of the seat, it was ridiculously high for Jaya arc. After that came Sabaody and the Smile foreshadowing and after that MF. Not to mention his status in the underworld and his connection to Kaido and his overall status and soft power he has. Hi crew is ridiculously epic and he is so far one fo the best arc villains and if we indeed get a Luffy v Doflamingo ... just OMFG!!!

17. Akainu
First of let me say I don't like him for what he did to Ace and him playing dirty, but as a character he is awesome. He is the worse enemy of Luffy's atm for what he did to Ace, not to mention that he leads the Marines and is one of the key players in the world govt. His justice is extreme and it shows how going too far in any direction can be harmful. Too bad we never got to see (so far ) the fight between him and Aokiji. I also think it's neat how his name ''Sakazuki'' means ''sake-cup''. I think he could potentially make an epic final fight for Luffy but that is too far off to talk about atm.

16. Fujitora
I honestly don't know what it is about him that made me love him right of the bat. He seems an honest old man but that remains to be seen. I think the main reason is the DF, I was waiting for a gravity manipulating power for almost 11 years!! And the fact that an admiral has it just makes everything even more epic. His goal also makes me excited, as well as his mention of the reverie, not to mention the Fujitora v Law v Dofy. The Wisteria Tiger made the entire Dressrosa arc one level better than it would have been without him.

15. Smoker
Coby aside he is Luffy's main Marine rival and even though he has had some downs post TS he is still my no. 15. I like the idea of a Marine rival chasing after Luffy and I like that a Marine has a strong (and a bit more correct) sense of Justice, he usually knows the right thing to do and is even willing to team up with his enemies (which he respects) to defeat the greater evil ... something Sakazuki lacks. I have hoped for a long time that he might at some point become a revolutionary under the reason that he wants to reform the corrupt Marines and WG for the better. Idk whether he would do that but on the other side that would remove him as a Marine rival to Luffy so I am kinda torn about that and I think I would like either choice.

14. Mihawk
The worlds strongest swordsman and the first Sichibukai. He was the first taste we got of the power of the endgame of OP. He has a great personality (imo) and a great design for a swordsman. He is Zoro's goal and whatever may happen (whether they get to fight or not) I think he will remain Zoro's dream, even if Shiliew (or whoever) gets to be Zoro's final opponent. He is also quite mysterious and should imo be one of the strongest atm. There is also his (let's call it) friendship with Shanks. I also liked his relaxed ownage in the MF war and his little comment on Luffy and his power.

13. Crocodile
The first major Villain and even though I like Luffy v Lucci better I do think he is a better character. I loved him in Alabasta, the quintessential villain mastermind that wants to achieve a coup and assemble an army to take on the world. The ending of Alabasta was perfect with his fight with Luffy and even his goal of the ancient weapon (which come in play later and are still to this day a mystery). And than he made a comeback in ID and MF and as Luffy's ''ally''. Now he is on the loose again and I hope he gets to play a big part in the story again. He was the first great enemy in the first big arc and later made an epic comeback ... you just gotta love him!

12. Bon Kurei (Mr. 2)
The Okama himself. I really don't know what to say here, I just love the guy, he's funny, he's hilarious and he's ridiculous and on top of that he's ludicrous.

11. Blackbeard (Marshall D Teach)
He's ridiculous and he's epic ... he's a D. He is abnormally overpowered (or has the potential for it) with two of the most OPd DFs so far. He is a bit different than a normal D but his general personality is still weird for what he is (and that's why he's so great). He is the real pirate of OP, the big villainous figure that is ever-present as the story is told and yet everyone is still guessing whether that will actually turn out to be the case. Will it be him or the WG? I do think his turn will come before the WG's. He is the epic instigator that brought about the epicness that surrounded Ace's execution.

10. Silvers Rayleigh
Luffy's TS mentor, the first mate of Roger himself. He gave us some pretty epic info on Sabaody and an epic fight against Kizaru. He thought Luffy haki and he was one of the Legends of the previous era. I hope we get to see him reveal some more information in the future. He is also the one that suggested the TS so it is partly due to him that we will get to see the epicness of the NW. First shown to us in chapter 19 and formally introduced at the big 500 mark in the ''Embers of History''

9. Whitebeard (Edward Newgate)
The White to the Black, the Edward to the Teach. The epic man that could destroy the world, the era named Whitebeard may be over but the Legend will never be forgotten!
The era is WHITEBEARD!!!
I mean what do I have to say? Just reread the MF arc, he is badass, he is epic and he is BIG! WB v Akainu! and his speech, Roger is waiting for someone and there will be a war, a war that engulfs the entire world and the WG is afraid, they should be, they should be afraid of Luffy!

8. Gol D Roger (The Pirate King)
By now you can see that I have a fondness for legends so here is another one. The Pirate King himself the man that started this great and epic story! He was the king, he started the great pirate era, he had the One Piece but he died before he could finish and take on the world he is waiting for the one who does, although Luffy's might find a different answer he will learn what Roger knew and he will challenge the world.

7. Kuzan
He is relaxed and he is lazy (like a cartoon of me really) but he has his priorities in order and steps up when it counts. He is the ice man, my fav element, the cold, the winter ... He is the first Admiral introduced to us and he showed Luffy how powerless he is before the greats of the One Piece world, he annihilated him completely and that made Luffy think (...). He is my no. 1 wish to see as a revolutionary, if that happened I might actually get a heart attack. Anyway the Blue Pheasant is no more, now he is a lone traveler and he will be playing a big role in the events to come.

6. Monkey D Garp
The Grandpa, The Legend Of The Marines. He is the Marine equivalent of Roger. But most importantly he is Luffy's grandpa, he is a lot like Luffy and I love how he too (even in the corrupt Marines) maintains a high level of authority and respect with a funny and borderline childish mannerism, his men respect him even if he lets them boss him around. When he first arrived he had some pretty epic info for us, at the post Enies Lobby arc, that is one of the moments that show us the great story above the adventure we see now.

5. Shanks
The man that inspired Luffy to become a pirate, to become a king. The man that clashed with Whitebeard and the man that stopped the War. He is Luffy's friend and he is in Luffy's way to the top. A fan-favorite. A red headed badass. He is a character who's mere appearance could make any reat OP fan fangasm in an instant. The main reason I like Shanks is that he is sort of the guy behind Luffy. His captain chose him and gave him the hat but than Shanks chose Roger's successor, he bet everything on the new age, he bet everything on Luffy. Also ... you know ... he gave him the Hat!

4. Monkey D Dragon
The most mysterious figure in OP, he is the other character that could make any OP fan fangasm. Everything surrounding him is a source of great intrigue to the fans. And when he has been revealed to be Luffy's father that just made him ... well. There are many theories about his power, about his reasons and actions, ... He wants to turn the world of One Piece on its head. He was introduced in the big 100 and his appearance ended the ''set-up'' of the story of OP and began the legend in the ever-so aptly named ''The Legend Begins''. He is the holy grail of mysterious characters and he will most likely have a key role in the biggest events in the story of OP.

3. Sabo
Luffy's brother. Loved him in the flashback and the latest arc didn't exactly tarnish his reputation as a character. I think the one thing that is special about him is his connection to Luffy. He grew up with Luffy and they became brothers. And I absolutely love him in Dressrosa, now he is in the tournament and I can't wait to see what happens next. Also the fact that he was with Dragon all these years just makes him more interesting. He completely stole the show after 731 and he is still atm the center of attention for most OP fans. I do admit though that if I made this list before 731, though he would have been in the top 10, he would not be at no. 3.

2. Portgas D Ace
Well seeing how no. 3 was Luffy's brother this one was completely obvious. I love Ace as a character and the main reason, just like with Sabo, is his connection to Luffy and teir childhood together. But he isn't just Luffy's brother, he is also Roger's son and a part of the WB pirates. And his character was the centerpiece of the best moment of One Piece (for me), that was chapter 574, it was the most shocking chapter and it was the most dramatic one. But putting his death aside my fav moment of Ace was actually the time we get to really see him for the first time, in Alabasta, the whole debacle with Luffy, Ace and Smoker ... that is still one of my favorite moments in the manga.

1. The Strawhats
As I said I had to cheat a bit with this one because if I didn't the list would just be half full of the Strawhats and there would be only 10 spots left, I could have done a top 30 but I prefer it this way. I pulled an Inception and made a list within a list.
Anyway if I had to somehow rank the SHs I would do it like this:

10. Vivi
Yes I am including her in here. Sue me. I like her but Oda kinda made my decision on who to put in the last place when she didn't join. Though on this list I would prefer not to use the term '' last place'' or ''least fav''. Anyway, she was a great character all through Alabasta. She was a real part of the group and her actions during Alabasta made her one of my favs. But the best moment with her is probably her parting from the SHs in one of the (imo) most iconic scenes of OP.

9. Brook
The next one is the Soul King. He has an amazing backstory, I loved how it tied in with the SHs entrance into GL and Laboon. He is a skeleton musician an an everlasting quest for panties. The reason I like all the SHs is their dynamic as Nakama and their relationships so since I'm already saying that here I might describe some of them very briefly.

8. Franky
the SUUUUUUPEEER cola man! The time he joined and Robin's grab was probably the funniest moment for me (in the anime at least). He also has an awesome voice actor. I liked how he spent the TS in the lab of Vegapunk. I could go on and on about my fav moments of the SHs but I think you know them all.

7. Robin
She perhaps had the most interesting TS story and I can't wait until she starts talking about it. She has a big role in the bigger story of OP with the real history and the ancient weapons and the WG. also if I had to describe myself witht eh SHs i would probably say a mix of Robin and Sanji (minus the nosebleeds). She got an epic arc centered around her and one of the best moments in OP (I want to live!). The SHs also declared war on the WG for her.

Ok this one turned out to be impossible, I just can't rank them. They are the original ones from the East Blue. It would be pointless for me to try and summarize why it is so, I could probably write all day, but if you have been reading OP I'm sure you know.
