Essentially this. In terms of being successful, however, you need a bit of luck as well. Sure, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs had talent, but they also hard work but were also lucky in their younger lives. If you really want to look into this subject, however, I highly suggest "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell. Has a lot to say on talent and hard work.It's situational. In some cases, definitely x)
In many others though, having the gift is a necessity -- programming for example. Sure, you can learn to do it, but having the gift of a logical mind to begin with will push you so much further xD
