Danzo isone of the better written characters, but I think either Gaara or Itachi would be considered the best.

My opinion
1-Obito
2-Madara
3-Danzo
4-Itachi
5-Nagato

I won't say Naruto or Sasuke yet even though they're really well written because the series isn't over yet

I really like Itachi but he strikes me as a mary-sue nowadays

but his back story, his controversial act (the Uchiha massacre) and how he decided to live after that/his motives makes him unique to this series and in my opinion a masterpiece.

as for Danzo i absolutely agree with what you're saying, he does bring a more realistic view to the story.

a person who's willing to do the dirty work will always be needed (it cannot be all "noble" when you run a village), and Danzo took the role that most people would shy away from/avoid but, it was necessary (not saying that everything he did was justified).

you cannot label him as good/bad and he took both terms to the extreme.

Danzo is interesting but hardly the best written character. He's too static - almost zero character development for him throughout the entire series.

I agree that Danzō is the best written character. Who else inspires admiration and even more blind fury from the fans? No one.
That, and it's easy to call some good and others evil. Not Danzō. There's a lot more to it than that.

I agree and i love all the hate he gets for being so human

that's what normal humans would do

And yet, the more human you are in the manga the more people hate you
Example: Sakura the human weakness of the story

I'm interested in your reasoning. I didn't mean to offend.

My bad then.

Hashirama-Hashirama stood up to his bastard of a father who let not only his clan children but his own, at seven years old no less fight in war and mortal combat. He possessed a kekkei genki symbolic of life and renewal that several antagonists stole to enact their plans. He also mastered senjutsus and thus valued all life and nature over his own power. Instead of wiping out the Uchiha, he wanted to change things, stop conflict and genocide, be at peace with them and the world and preserve his friendship with Madara. He even offered his life as payment for Izuna's death and wanted Madara to be Hokage. He later formed Konoha and the village system and captured and restrained the bijuus who were wreaking havoc around the world and as a compromise of peace, gave them to the other villages to keep everyone equal. Like Ashura, he believed love and equality was the way. He also made Tsunade a gambler lols.

Kaguya-Kaguya is mysterious and menacing. A woman of unknown origin who stole god's power for selfless reasons but in the end was corrupted by it, ruled the world out of fear and almost destroyed it.

Hagoromo-Hagoromo created Ninshuu and ultimately ninjutsu. He made his righteous son his heir to balance the scales but in the end that still backfired. He tried to ensue peace through free will by connecting everyone's chakras and now Naruto has adopted that power and ideal. He defeated the Juubi and saved the world and to protect the people from it, split it into the bijuus with wills of their own. He has reached a realm of enlightenment and his six paths represent the six realms of reincarnation in Buddhism. All of his actions I believe reflect these as well.

Tsunade-Tsunade is the most matriarchal character in my opinion and a terrific Hokage and tactician. She further inspired Naruto, trusts and roots for him. She puts her life on the line to save her village and the young. She was one of Hiruzen's pupils and created the medical unit and squad member and fought as one of the legendary sannin that won the second war. Her story is quite tragic and inspirational with her brother and fiance being killed, which ultimately played a part in Orochimaru's turn and thus overall character. Her gambling and drinking comic reliefs make her realistic and compelling as well.

Ibiki-Ibiki is a realisitc character and like Danzou, a representative of Konoha and the shinobi's dark side as shown through his methods of interrogation, testing and scars.

Ashura-Like Naruto and Lee started out with with nothing and worked hard to reach his brother's level. He put love, friendship and equality over his own power, used his head and formed an army to take on Indra and it appears to be implied he like Naruto also harmonized with the bijuus.

Kakashi is a very good choice but IMO he lacks a goal that defines him

I believe the appropriate term is Gary-Stu.:) But how so? Minato, pt1 Sasuke, and current Naruto are actually more sue than he is. Itachi doesn't even fit the category to be one. He's hated by the majority of the Naruverse and viewed as one of the biggest scumbags in history, considering only about 5 of them as of now know the truth (sues are adored by everyone) and he admitted that he failed (even though whether he truly failed or not is up for debate...after all he's really just a human being) and sues do not fail at their major goals. They are also quite cocky and don't tend to admit their faults, which doesn't describe Itachi. There aren't any true sues in the series (though alot come pretty close to being one) besides pre-war arc Minato and Konan. No one else really fits the bill.

ot: Yes, he's well-written but not the best. I think that Gaara, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Itachi, and Nagato beat him as far as being well-written goes. But I do like the controversy his character sparks in discussions.

He is always praised by everyone and loved by every person that knows his past so i don't doubt that his past would become public at the end of the manga and be praised as a hero
