Actually, the similarlity between Jiraya and Hagoromo is depicted greatly by Kishi.

(1) they are both Ninshu masters
(2) Jiraya's cloathing is an illustration of Hagoromo. Check his forehead protector and how Kishi placed horns on them
(3) Check decoration on Jiraya's hands and how they look like Naruto in KM or BM
(4) Both hagoromo and Jiraya had relationship with the taods - toad sages

Etc.

The only things Jiraya lacks is the actual power of Hagoromo, which I think Naruto is the one who is the true wielder of the power.

The only ones who knew about Itachi were the 3rd,3rd's team mates, Danzo, Itachi, and apparently Obito
