Well.
Lets assume when alliance came gai was at 90% once shizune heals him

This scan shows that he tired from the ten tails battle and the Shinju tree attack, he was so tired Lee had to hold him up. once he's sumped over lee says that he has no energy to move ...so lets say he was at 60% there












This scan shows that guy went into 7gated blitz mode while (tired, and body hurt already from gates) he uses hirudora and clashes it with Madras staff reeling him out gates and broken RIBS AND RIGHT ARM so here lets say hes now at 40% then releses
8gates


which brings him up abit to 50% of his full strength

So I believe that's why his bones and body didn't last longer and his attacks were only 50% of his 8gated power
This is why i accept what happened as no plot whole it was simply as Madra said " the fates chose him" (btw rikudara had120% health)

He has a point. He even used 7 gates before that. Look how many times he had used gates in war arc before he even used 8 gates people. He was weakened. although i dont agree with the percentages i agree he wasn't at 100%
