Gaara clearly slaughters neji. What's neji going to do...? He isn't fast enough to bypass autodefence, and his little punches won't get him through the sand.
Neji would slaughter sasuke at the poiint. Sasuke had to severely restrain himself at the point because of cursed mark.

We are talking chuunin exam Gaara VS Chunin exam Neji. Honestly this fight could go either way at least until Gaara goes cloak mode anyway. Gaara's sand is powerful yes. But Neji is not Lee. Rotation would probably repel most of Gaara's sand assault. Jyuuken (Gentle Fist) don't forget that Neji can tag tenketsu and shut Gaara down from using his sand jutsu. The only real issue is the autodefense from Gaara's sand in the gourd.

Neji's Byakugan can see the chakra pathways so when Gaara is about to launch an attack Neji can react accordingly and shut him down. But again once Gaara goes Shukaku mode...well I think it's all over for Neji.

He merely used his chakra to open some of his blocked chakra points. He literally tricked Neji with a clone ( who was said to be a genius )and KO-d him with one punch.

1.Lee did pass through the sand with 5 gates.
2.Lee being stronger then he was before will go through the sand with more ease given the fact that psychical energy is raised with training which raises the raw strength sand speed of his gates.
3.Heat turns sand into glass.
4.He only loss because the pain was intolerable and he closed his eyes for a second.
If he did the same moves now he would be able to endure until his assault was finished.

Am i saying he will win outright ? No,gaara has gotten stronger too.

4. You're talking about hidden lotus. Gaara can cushion the fall with his gourd. 5th gate he pounded gaara the hardest he could, gaara's sand armor didn't break and gaara still cushioned the blow with his gourd.

You said neji can block the sand. Fair enough, no one denied that. But you never said how he gets through it; instead, he somehow shuts off gaara's points out of the blue? Neji has to get through auto defence, then sand armor just to pour his chakra into gaara.
Not like neji ever passes auto defence anyway because it happens without gaara's input. That means no matter how hard neji looks, he won't see when auto defence will activate, since gaara doesn't control it... neji needs brute strength or speed to even have a remote chance of winning this. He has neither.

Gaara would win this, about mid diff.

Lee is faster than Gaara's sand -as he could outrun or intercept gudou dama's which are faster than Gaara's sand- this would allow him to dodge and bypass defenses for a while along with his longer gated maintainance. But in the end Gaara's defense have gotten a lot stronger which allows him to tank Lee's attacks.

A better match would be Gai vs Gaara or Lee vs 4th kazekage (i made a case for Lee in this marticular match up in my previous posts)

About Lee vs Neji, they have been portrayted as equals at the time Lee mourned Neji i don't think Lee got exceptionally more powerful in about few hours at manga timeline. By feats, Lee takes this mid-high diff, even prior to reveal of 6 gates i believed Lee would take out Neji 9/10 times.

Truth be told Lee lost do to plot the first time . Unless they are fighting in a desert or sandy area Lee would win. He is much stronger than in part 1. and Gaara would not survive morning peacock, you're crazy if you think he could. Lets not mention the fact Lee won't. and dosent get hurt from the gates like he did in pt1 and is still to fast for the sand to catch him.

I did mention getting around the auto defense would be a problem. But neji is agile with Jyuuken. And seeing the Tenketsu fire off before a sand jutsu is acivated gives neji a preemptive edge in launching say Air Palm pushing through the forming sand.. Once he hits a Tenketsu the damage begins as Gaara will losse momentum not begin able to control his sand jutsu. 8 Trigrams 64palms is pretty fast in itself seeing as how Neji swiftly appears just below his opponent in a low offensive stance before the assault.

The problem with Gaara's Auto-defense is that he relies on it so much that he hasn't honed his own reaction time, which is why Lee and Sasuke were able to tag him before it could catch them.

The Key to neji tagging gaara lies in counter attacking when Gaara attacks. That's how Deidara one against him. Gaara cannot attack and defend at the same time with the sand. And Neji is a genious so planning follow up attacks in lue of Gaara's offensive shouldn't be that much of a problem. The difficulty comes in executing them successfully. Gaara is not an easy oppoenent, but Neither is Part I Neji.
