the first season was a scary/bloodfest where children were stabbed, people were brutally murdered, and there was a lot of gruesome torture. However the second season contained barely any of that!!! Instead it was replaced by an amazing emotional roller coaster ride that embodied everything anime stood for. with more realistic tales of friendship then either naruto or one piece.

I really recommend the second season. Higurashi kai, which is easily one of the greatest animes I have ever watched lol

I'd say Gemini of the Meteor was a lot different from Darker Than Black, same with Clannad. The first season was a bit generic, but After Story did things and treaded territories that other slice-of-life series hadn't before.

Another one'd probably be Shakugan no Shana. It got a whole lot better after the first season, and the third season was the same way.
