Yes. Otherwise he would have blown his cover and Sengoku would have executed him. He intended to play the part properly, until he found a way out anyway.

How is that a plot hole ? Mr 3 didn't have any obligation to save Ace. He only disguised himself to escape Marineford safely. He just needed to kill Ace together with the other guard as planned and he would be able to walk out of there without any problems.

Because Mr. 3 is on Luffy's side, even if he wanted to save his own hide, he's already on their radar and would have been found out eventually, they know his face.

Mr. 3 is on no ones side. He tried to bail multiple times in Impel Down and his only way to escape was to go with Luffy.

And he was standing next to Sen Goku so he was off the radar. He only needed to chop Ace's head off to end the war and then he could've made an escape.

It still doesn't make sense. He stuck with Luffy that whole time, he's already a wanted pirate. even more so for breaking out of Impel Down, killing Ace would have done nothing to benefit him at that point.

He didn't stuck with Luffy at all, he tried to run with buggy several times, first he got punched into the hole, the second time the ramen lion crushed the ground and I believe the third time the minotaur broke the floor.

He was nowhere to be found in the Okama level, his only option was to get on Luffy's ship or get killed by Magellan.

Killing Ace would not blow his cover and take away the pirates objective of the war, and the whole thing would be over pretty soon. Mr. 3 has no connection to Ace or Luffy, neither did he owe Luffy anything. He is a pirate, he can do what he wants
