I think he's a great shinobi for the future, he's born talented (Sarutobi clan), can use A-rank techniques at his age (Shuriken Bunshin, Rasengan) and the B-rank Fire release technique: Ash Pile burning ((Kakashi was surprised when Sasuke used a B-rank technique Great Fireball and said that it's not so common at that age)) , he got good chakra reserves: used shadow clones to beat one of the Pains and somehow maintained against Naruto in their fight in the Chuunin exams.
I hope the story will last enough to see him as an adult.

Actually I enjoy spin-offs and fillers, they're made to complete the main story.
