I think it's theoretically an option... Gai's only lacking in talent. He's able too use summoning, walk on water; etc.

Oro could then simply regenerate the body as we've seen him do...

The problem is not at DNA level, it's just that the Death Gate consumes all the chakra of the body as far as we have seen. If Naruto didn't close the last gate on Gai's body, all the remaining chakra would have been consumed and leave the body as an empty husk. Doesn't matter if you have Hashirama's regen, Tsunade's Byakugou or whatever, it's not a thing that can be cured with simple regeneration techniques.
