You could also refer to the newest Devil May Cry by Ninja Theory. Everytime you fight with Dante you go to the Limbo. It's an interspace for demons

Well, I knew what Limbo was, but I didn't know how kishi would use it.
In any case, the way madara uses limbo isn't really the way Limbo itself is described... Madara's limbo has someone in the 'limbo dimension' wrecking shit up. While with a true limbo, Naruto and sasuke (for example) would be the ones sent to the limbo space to spend their time

it's something christian, I guess thats where Ninja Theory (creators of DMC) took the idea from. And Kishi at least got the name from it
