How was Madara able to absorb the God Tree?

Madara has one Rinnegan eye so theoretically he shouldn't be able to use any known rinnegan doujutsu because we seen him go on the defense and try dodging Gai's attacks rather than counterattack.

So then how was he able to absorb the God Tree? If it was via Rinnegan then how come Obito wasn't able to use it?

Besides shinra would have not worked guy was literally pushing the air and spacetime itself in front of him out of his way warping the sages staff forward on impact with madara.

It was never stated you can't use rinnegan techs with one eye or obito would of never taken one with him to war.
Not to mention we seen things awakened in eyes and then used without them entirely

And the only tech that would of not been negated can't be used because guy doesn't use chakra based attacks

tree is nothing but raw chakra in physical form. It'll make sense that he can absorb it with the rinnigan.

It is possible to use the Rinnegan techniques with only one eye, as was demonstrated by Obito who used the Six Paths of Pain technique and the Gedou Rinne Tensei no Jutsu, and Madara who used Limbo on the Bijuu and attempted to use it on Naruto. As for absorbing the Shinju, I guess it was trying to gain a vessel to sprout its power, thus allowing Madara to absorb it
