No, he is right. The Tree is not just the Tree of Life from Christian Mythos, it shares a lot of aspects from Islamic and Norse Mythology as well. He has also incorporated several aspects of Shinto history. It is a mish-mash of many things.

I wouldn't agree that it's completely from Christian Myth, but it has aspects of it. I see many connotations from Norse Mythology as well with respect to the Tree. Amaterasu on the other hand is filled to the brim with Christian and Islamic Mythos in regards to hell and tears of blood. Which is why it's my favourite jutsu - the level of literary metaphors in this single technique surpasses everything in the manga. It's that complex a technique from literary perspective.
