Do you think Lee would have won against Gaara in the chuunin exams if he had drank elixir in that battle? I mean, How would the old Gaara be able to block his unpredictable movements if he couldn't block his predictable movements?

I could be wrong but the sand that protects gaara on its own is his mothers will and his absolute def that he controlled in pt1 was shukaku powers and gaara'a. I think it was the fight with his edo father that stated this.
