Just look at Ashura's panel, it's a night sky so it's a Full Moon

In a black and white manga how are you gonna draw the sky with the sun in it except to draw the sky as black so that you have contrast so that both aren't white. Shading comes to mind but shading doesn't seemed to be used that much i.e. hair should be shaded to denote a bit more light or dark but it isn't. Also the mountains are shaded and a shaded sky would again lead to a problem with contrast.
Also there are clouds, you wouldn't see clouds in the night sky. You could say because the moon you would seem them and to that I say the clouds would be put in for the purpose of telling the reader its day, they have no purpose in a night scene. Except when covering the moon which they are not.

Yeah good point but that was an entirely different drawing style back in part 1. And the sky there was gray not black with a for sure full moon lighting the sky to see gray half light clouds. It doesn make sense for it to be another moon anyway, the parallel would n longer exist. Coulda been sunset in the recent chapter and like I said before the second panel you showed me was shaded, that woulda brought complications with contrast between the mountains. You did disprove my point about the sun though in the white sky.

Also the 2nd panel you showed me is dusk I believe, not night, the anime had naruto stealing the scroll at dusk. And this panel seems to coorelate that.

No like I said the parallel between the moon and the sun. There isn't one between the crescent and full moon. I am going to say one las thing and then I am done because I am on mobile right now. Just seeing clouds and night mean nothing especially on a night with a full moon where there is enough light from the moon. Also that was only one point from my original post. The issue here is contrast in the sense of emphasis. A sun in a white sky doesn't bring emphasis the "sun" aspect of it especially against the moon. Sun aspect meaning light, warmth, and life. This is what a shura represents.

What significance do you think a full moon vs a crescent moon really is. Full and complete vs incomplete maybe??? Doesn't make sense to me. If it holds a symbolic meaning I might start to believe it, try supporting your theory with the possible implications of it actually being the moon and not the sun.

Ultimately I think we will need to wait for an official color page or the anime gets to it. But I am legitamately interested in why you think it is the moon based on what it would mean rather than how Kishi decided he wanted to color the sky.

Amaterasu (天照) is the goddess of the sun and is one of the major Japanese mythological gods.
Tsukuyomi (ツクヨミ) was the god in charge of the moon. Tsukuyomi was the brother of Amaterasu and Susanoo god of storms and the sea.

I believe they represent the sun and the moon.I think Kishi jus used the crescent moon for design purposes to tell the difference between the sun and the moon. We all know mostly all Japanese manga have strong references to Japanese folklore and legends based on their society and beliefs.

Maybe the "sun" and "Moon" symbols on their hands represent the halfs of the staff they touched as one was a full circle so full moon or sun and the other was a half circle

Honestly the only way to know for sure would be confirmation through the manga but unfortunately in the meantime your gonna have people saying "you don't have clouds in a night sky".....:what: Are you being serious, what planet are you from?

O.T - Now that you have pointed it out, it's kinda hard not to think its a full moon. They are both standing under a CLOUDY NIGHT SKY, with Indra beneath the crescent moon and Ashura under the full moon.

Also as someone stated earlier by another member, the crescent moon represents one who relies only on his power (Alone and never complete) while the full moon represents one who relies on the people around him aswell as himself (acknowledged and full of happiness).

Naruto mentions this a few times throughout the manga, when he felt alone and lost but then he had Iruka, Kakashi, Sakura, Jiraiya etc. that would be there to help him through dark times.:win:

Aww no one is going for the gibbous moon theory (Which is the only one that fit's the images on their hands, by the way)

Either way it kind of ruins the symmetry for me, i.e. Naruto being Light and Sasuke being Dark. Yin and Yang. Sun and Moon. Though, I suppose Amaterasu already throws a wrench in that.

Yeah, too bad. Its just a speculation though, this might be entirely wrong or even end up being right. Lets just wait untill kishi explains everything.
