A previous thread (see spoiler below) entitled "Uchiha vs Hyuga" asked a question of who would win. I will let you go ahead and read what everyone said on your own. When I did read it several questions came to mind. If its clan vs clan then, what are the parameters?
I decided a fair fight would be excluding multi generational "heros". Simply put no building a dream team. Anyone who was around could not participate if they left or otherwise betrayed their clan. Yes this hurts Uchiha but this isnt about superheros through the ages its about clan vs clan warfare.
The other way to make it fair was to take away any exceptional skills, including the 64 palms and all that jazz, mainly due to not every has or can use it, following that logic means the same for Uchiha.
So here it is, this would have to be Pre Naruto/Sauce era. You can't have a clan war without a....clan...
Era: During the time of the 4th's (albeit short) reign.
Location: Hidden leaf.
Scenario: Up-rise came several years earlier while there was still a lot of strife between countries. Other clans are in the forward, only citizens, youth nin, old nin, support. Uchiha's were left to protect kinda like national guards, knowing growing conflict was on the rise the Leaf left Hyuga in the rear as added support and just incase of uchiha tries to capitalize. And they do.
Known Nin Superstars during this era: None (that I can recall)

Orochimaru: Being the guy he is seeks the rest of the Uchiha out and offers them safety.....Several years later a Sharingan Orochimaru attacks the Leaf instead of a certain masked man.
Winner:
.
Reasoning:
There you have it. Its not the only way things could go, but given the era used its not bad. Visit the thread linked above if you want to discuss what would happen if any member of the clan was in on it, it seems to be the general feal of that thread.
Thanks for reading!

Known Nin Superstars during this era: None (that I can recall)
1st move:
Uchiha: they move to sever support and supply just out of town headed to the front lines. A calculated move to reduce efficiency and dwindle numbers. Not concerned with the Leaf actually falling to any one nation, just softening them up.
Counter:
Hyuga, knowing Uchiha needs watching has intel (Nearly unrivaled scouts of the leaf) on the purposed movements, and decide to let Uchiha go about its dirty business. Deciding to catch the Nin involved at their gates, moving for a raid against the Uchiha (compound? whatever their old haunt use to be called)
2nd move:
Hyuga, easily subduing the Uchiha sent to disrupt the supply route. The raid happens, Hyuga move quickly and have the initiative gaining easy victory early on.
Counter:
Uchiha: Luckily for Uchiha (being generous) 1 in 10 have awaken sharingan, movements are coordinated from time spent as the police force and are able to re group and mount a counter attack.
3rd move:
Uchiha: Fighting in the streets, on every rooftop, in homes of combatants and noncombatants (not saying noncoms were in danger), Uchiha leaders grouped with whoever has sharingan are able to hold their own and even erk out vicotries due to the nature of have sharingan users in these divided groups. Uchiha's plan is to take back one section of town, using their home vantage to its fullest.
Counter:
Hyuga: Although Uchiha fight hard and are relentless one on one, they can not cordinate as well as Hyuga with Baykugan, less effort is wasted knowing who is coming and how many, and where they are holed up at or headed. The tides tip again, the early sucess of Uchiha's counter attack is dwindling as the hours roll by, panic and stress take their toll as they realize the reality of their opponents ability. Coupe detet is out or question. Most want to just survive the night.
4th move:
Hyuga: Holding ground with next to no effort, Hyuga starts overwhelming the Uchiha, playing off the fear and anxiety of the fight they allow anyone to surrender (its not pretty but they live) to be dealt with what passes as court in NV. Reducing their numbers effectively and cutting off any real support to the divided cells. The remaining Uchiha are holed up in their strongest structure (Guessing their police station of building of governance). Hyuga hold in a siege like manner and decided to await for reinforcements and win through attrition or sheer force (Word would have been sent, its a given).
Counter:
Uchiha: Knowing their defense will hold, and any assault on them would cost Hyuga dearly, what remains of the leadership discuss their next course of action. As the window of time before reinforcements arrive (Again they would know this is SOP) the remaining leaders are divided on what the next course of action. Run or go give up.
5th move:
Uchiha: The remaining forces are at ends, those wanting to run and live decided that time is running out much faster than theorized, using the side that wants to surrender as a decoy and sacrificial lamb. Staging an attack as negotiations are near complete, sending the whole scene into chaos the remaining Uchiha charge through the siege and escape into the wilderness, only 2/3rds remain others fall or die to wounds shortly after. For arguments sake we will conclude that the a portion of the clan escaped and were not found
Counter:
Hidden Leaf: Reinforcements arrive through out the next few days and the stabilization process goes underway. Many units are pulled back to hold ground after the news of a coup detet leaks out. Majority of the Uchiha are found and are dealt with. The remaining Uchiha realize they will need allies to survive

Winner:
Hyuga
Reasoning:
Its like playing hide and go seek, or Call of duty with X-ray vision. Its not even fair. Less effort, means attrition is main tactic of the battle, with psychological attacks ranks in as #2. Its easy to say one vs one Uchiha win, so early battles are gained but ultimately they can't hold on to victory for long. No matter the scenario there is no hope for restock or supply of troops and gear. With limited means to medical supplies or staff not many can return to the battle who are injured more than first aid level. And thats being generous, because we know that the Hyugas are glorified as the strongest clan in the Leaf. Uchiha's have great potential but only in those rare occasions, and when you are talking about war, the efforts of one soldier can be inspiring, cannot realistically win the a war (This war arc is...dumb for that reason, use the previous ninja war as a guideline)
