I'll take some flack for this, but I don't think Madara has played his whole hand yet. Let's keep in mind what we've seen out of Madara
Started this whole conflict until this day
-basically killed the 2 main characters (tell me someone who has done this before)
-Successfully planned his own resurrection and revenge on Konoha
-Used clones to raped The 5 kage
-OWNED the previous hokage
-Beat Hashirama soundly after resurrecting. It's implied he didn't do so sooner because he wanted to beat Hashi in a different order, after becoming the Jinch
-Owned BM Naruto, even before getting SM chakra, RT'd or the Juubi chakra upgrades. Owned EMS Sasuke with one attack.
-While blind, fought off the entire alliance on his own
-One-shot'd the Bijuu's in a 9v1 match
-Raped a whole squadron of the shinobi alliance by summoning meteors from the sky
-Brain washed Obito and Nagato (basically made them his *****es)
-Became the juubi's jin whitout going derp mode like Obito
-Tanked the 8 Gates like a boss
What we've seen from Madara:
-PS jutsu
-Mokuton attacks on level of Hashirama, possibly even greater
-Summoned meteors
-Rinnegan mastery
-Extracting TBs with one attack
-Advanced medical ninjutsu on himself and others, including Obito
-Superior knowledge of plot/universe mechanics, even beyond Hashirama
-Superior speed and intellect to arguably anyone in the manga
-Tendency to fight down to his opponent's level
So where I'm going with this is I don't think we saw even close to 100% Madara versus Guy. Did he underestimate Guy? Yeah probably. But let's keep in mind 8 gates didn't stop the 7 Swordsmen. It never stood any real chance of stopping Madara either. Madara was never going to be taken out by a fodder like Guy. Why the elaborate act? Madara's a showman. Vain, arrogant and proud.
I think the current Naruto is still far under Madara's level. We'll get a few chapters of a good fight before Naruto starts getting his butt whooped hardcore. The Sage said one thing that alludes to the Infinite Tsukuyomi: The world he created has failed, as Madara said. It stands on the eve of its destruction because that's what the world wanted. People didn't want peace, they opted instead for war. Their feelings did not reach each other. In the end the Sage's philosophy of Ninshuu appears to have failed entirely, and from a philosophical point of view Madara has more realistically described his era of endless warfare.
In a real sense Madara wants to give the world peace. Naruto still doesn't really have any answer to Nagato's question of how to end the cycle of hatred. I think we're going to get some chapters ahead that are very dark. Obito will die. Maybe Kakashi. Guy and/or Bee may die. Possibly even Hinata and/or Sakura. Maybe Sasuke will die in the end.
I think the real final villain is probably Kaguya and Juubi, along with Madara. Madara may have grown as a person during the century or so he survived. I suspect his real plan might be to return all chakra to the Juubi tree and then destroy it and all the T, along with himself, to finally free the world from the Sage's games and from the chakra that's caused many wars.
Madara might have grown to see power itself as the cause of conflict, and his goal might be to destroy it along with the link to God (read: the Sage). I'm starting to smell some serious Gendo vibes from Madara's character. What say you NB?
