Crocodile was a woman and was also Luffy's mother. Croco D. Isle but when her husband and Luffy's father became a revolutionary she changed herself into Crocodile after giving birth to Luffy and leaving him with Garp. That's why Crocodile wanted the ancient weapon so bad and used the title of shichibukai to his/her advantage because he/she was always planning on giving Pluton to Dragon.
