Hashirama is compatible with Senjutsu, The only reason that Orochimaru could use SM When he went to train was incompatability. Now that he has a body compatable with it, he should be able to use SM.

His body couldn't handel SM itself, but Orochimaru mastered Senjutsu gathering and manipulation - he utilizes Cursed Seals and was shown to be able to cancel Sennin Transformations.

Chakra pool - large or not - comes from a soul that's brought back to Impure World. A sacrifical body becomes its vessel. The thing is, that most of abilities need just chakra, while SM needs giant chakra reserves and a body strong enough to use it.
