YES YES, good point i forgot to mention that, hes also inviting others to this dream world, its his solution to the cycle of hatred that the world is cursed too. He wants everyone in the world to be happy not just himself. He wants all conflict to just be over and have nothing but peace and happiness. He wants kakashi and naruto and others to have all they could ever ask for in this dream world. He actually tries to talk you into seeing how he see's the world. He wants everyone to see the world how he sees it so that they will want to go to the dream world. Even in the filler when Yahiko died he promised them that they will see eachother in the Infinite Tsukuyomi. And in road to ninja, he gave naruto the life he never had. He gave him a family.

If you want him to be a better villain then the easiest way to do that is to not have a backstory.

To me he was a villain up until he was revealed and the Rin thing was over dramatized. At that point he became the tragic hero. I agre with you but the point of this thread wasn't to debate that.

Im not debating, im stating that hes never been a villain. Noone in the naruto universe is. Thats the point.

I answered your thread with getting rid of the back story, if noone had one, Gaara and itachi and everyone else who was once a "villain" will stay villains.

I have little to no qualms over Obito's antagonistic qualities. He's grown on me. I predicted and more or less wanted Tobi to be either Sasuke from the future or his dad, Fugaku, but Kishimoto foreshadowed it being Obito from the very beginning and introduced a concept of his I didn't expect: a parallel between he and Naruto. He and Naruto were much alike once and Obito's actions came off as what Naruto may have done had he lost either Sasuke or Sakura. He having a dark side that resented the village as well as almost caving when Neji died was further testament to that. I didn't mind the Rin flashbacks. Every character in this manga has their drive.

As I said, Obito was foreshadowed for a while I almost always presumed it was him. First was the Kakashi Gaiden arc that took place right before part two when Tobi was introduced. Second was we never got to see what happened to Rin prior. Third was his hair style. Forth was his goofy persona. Fifth was his right eye and sixth was it's space manipulation that swirled just like Kakashi's Kamui, which was also first introduced in part 2 of the series.

What would make him more like Madara?

A total absence of Motive for one thing.

Emotional involvement and depth. Linking to every main character except Sakura. Ruined Sasuke's life and ruined Naruto's life. Obito had all this and more.

I have no problem with Madara getting his shot at juubi host villain too- a psychopath with crazy power is fun to watch for pure aesthetic value but I just would've preferred Madara to have had his turn first, Obito's defeat would've marked a lot more for me.

Having a better motive then "my girlfriend committed suicide" in the middle of a bloody war where everyone has lost someone.

Personally, I think Obito is one of the best antagonists I've known of. The backstory was just about perfect, and he was endearing while still being the second most important antagonist. Also, I found his change of heart to be one of the best moments in Naruto, and I really can't wait for the Anime's version. I just wish I could erase it from my mind to watch it again, I guess...

The only thing I can criticize, I suppose, is how Obito's power was taken up to eleven incredibly quickly.

If he had an actual motive? Let's say he somehow escaped madara with all his inuries, then finds rin, and she turns to sanbi mode and rampages through konoha. He sloughters a lot of kiri shinobi in retaliation. Konoha make truce with kiri, Obito is to be executed as part of the deal, obito looks to kakashi for help, kakashi says "only trash break the rules". At this point obito loses his shit and decides **** the world i'm killing all you sob's. That I could live with. Not "oh rin died, well I guess I'm gonna have to take over the world now". Especially when the reason she died was suicide to protect konoha! Somehow the way to avenge that is releasing the kyuubi in konoha, killing your former sensei and his wife while attempting to kill his new born son?? Compared to him madara and sasuke are completely rational.

Yeah it needed to be more than those 3 chapters given to convert him, but I guess Kishi was pressed for time or something.

His change of heart pissed me off. Like you can't just feel so strongly about the moon's eye plan from like age 14 and then change your mind because of the words of some blonde kid.

It was Kakashi that did the talk no justu.

I like everything about Obito. He was a good antagonist.

I really don't get the people saying "He did it all just because his crush died!" etc.

Losing your loved one is probably the oldest reason to turn insane/evil in the history of humanity.

If you look at the circumstances of that scene, becoming some kind of psychopath after that is almost guaranteed...
