As we all know Gamamaru has the abillity to predict the future,and has some sort of relationship with the SO6P.What I think is that he is in fact the sages brother that inherited his mothers eyes(the byakugan,and possibly the sharingan), the sharingans abillity is to predict moves shortly before they happen,and the byakugans is the power to see everything as mentioned by some people.What could a combination of both allow a user to do?After the Juubi battle,he might'vê wondered into many lands to seek new powers,while this brother was dealing with the Juubi,and spreading the ninshu knowledge.In that journey he could've came across the myokubo mountain,and got taught the frogs way.In an attempt to master the SM he turned into a frog himself due to the intensivo use of senjutsu and decides to adopt a name(Gamamaru).And since everyone from that era pretty much died he became the leader of the frogs,and now lives longer cause i mean the time in there could be different from normal time.Just like the Time chamber on dbz.He could be the first and only person turned into a frog explaining how the frogs have that knowledge.

No worries mate,and to reply to the one above you,the manga Never stated that all the frogs in the Mount were related only Gamabunta and his sons,and the only one able to predict the future is Gamamaru.

It is interesting to entertain though because why did gamamaru even have to be mentioned at all. Just because the sage is around doesn't mean you need to have gamamaru prophecy all the way back then when the sage was around too. But remember, The sage is a transmigrant, he may have witnessed the prophecy of gamamaru after he died. Interesting though.
