Usop pulling what I can only call "a buggy" is...unusual. Usop was never my favourite strawhat nor will he ever be. I simply think he should have grown (as a character) past that lie thing. That he is coward? Ok. But the lies were explained and developed and over the timeskip it was supposed to have been surpassed. Everyone of them had a leap in terms of personal issues during the time skip and usop just remains too much the same. For me the time skip changed too little in him. I was hoping for more.

Remember that Ussop had a very defining moment about cowardice when he went through as SniperKing. He was brave and risked his life for Nico Robin...but Nico had become a toy, and when that happens, everyone forgets they exist, which means Ussop had no memory of his time overcoming fear and selfishness etc...That explains his regression a lot.

I have never been this happy from a manga chapter in any series! That's how good this chapter was and how much it pumped me up! Oda killed it this week and I am glad Ace lives on in his brother, Sabo. Also it was so cool how far above Sabo was than the other contestants.

Luffy was so awesome, I love this guy and his interactions with Law are hilarious. I hope Law and Luffy still hang out together for the rest of the arc at least. All in all, this was the best chapter, post-timeskip IMO.

I think Sabo eating the fruit right away was smart.
Dont want to risk losing Ace's legacy to anybody else.
Usopp lol. This chapter was great.
I think every chapter from here on to the end of this arc will be beast.
Maybe one more flashback about what happened to Law but thats it.

I like the fact that it was Sabo who ate the Mera Mera no Mi. I'm also glad that his face was finally revealed. ^_^
Usopp was epic too, haha. Nice to know that he's got a whole lot of people under his command.
Funny how Luffy still wanted to free Law even after he threatened to kill him. XD

I didn't expect Sabo to eat the fruit so fast and I am not sure how I feel about him having the Mera Mera. Anyway, his disclosure scene was great. I also like the fact that he has a high rank in the revolutionaries, that makes it clear that he won't follow Luffy's path or crew, I like how he has a separate role in story.

I think the birdcage plan evolves Law's room and DD string power to create a cage and then use both powers to annihilate the enemies. Seeing Law scared and not wanting to take of the shackles, maybe he is aware that DD will try to control him and use him against Luffy and co.

Well, actually the only ones not surprised by DD being alive was Pica and Law. Law reacted afterwards when he heard the birdcage thing, which makes me think that it's wasn't DD alone who saved himself, but he had the help of either two of them.

Sounds plausible, but why would DD need Law? DD can remotely control hundreds of people spread over an entire island. Even if his head got cut off, I doubt he is in such a position that he needs the help of a guy who he just beat the crap out an chained down. On top of that if it was some kind of collaboration attack, it should have been created when Law still worked for DD and thus before he became an independent pirate. Law's Room is now quite big, but 2 years ago it was far smaller, meaning it should have been even smaller when he was still DD's underling. I find it hard to believe that it was then such a dreadful attack.

Question though.. is.. Is this the beginning of the end?

Is the manga starting to tie up its story threats?

Usopp is now officially a brave warrior of the sea AND a captain, no doubt about it.

Sabo has returned and is a direct connection to Dragon, whom is kind of.. a big deal having been build up ever since Lougetown, and him actually appearing in front of Luffy, would mean the end is near.

Supposedly, the time-skip were supposed to be the half-way mark of the entire manga.. and comparing in how much time has passed, we spend a lot of time at fishman island, punk hazard and Dress-rossa.. so erh.. guys.. I think Oda is beginning to pick up old introduced plot threads and round them off..

The New World was already supposed to be the 'final part' after East Bleu and the Grand Line, but it's definitely still going over the 1000 chapters. Seriously this is not even remotely 'tying up loose ends': Kaidou, Big Mum, Blackbeard, Mihawk, Shanks, Buggy, Dragon, the unknown Shichibukai, the unknown admiral, Akainu's plans, Aokiji's plans, the Reverie, the Void Century, all the remaining Supernova, the One Piece etc. all of them still needs closure and Oda is not a person who does that in one two three.

Sabo was only introduced all the way at the end of the Marineford arc, just before the timeskip. So him being alive isn't much of a loose end. Who Dragon was we only came to know at the end of the Water 7 and Enies Lobbies arcs and it's from the ID and MF arcs that they become more prominent with Ivankov. That now some real active revolutionaries popped up, means that Dragon is starting to make his move, whatever that might be. With other words we just passed the introduction phase. This is far from being a plot that's being rounded of.

Kishi is tying his loose ends up. Suddenly we get the 8 Inner Gates, the origin of the Byakugan and the history of the SO6P and Hashirama and Madara on our plate. That's putting a close to ancient questions and plot stories. Oda is still building them up. If the time skip was literally the half way point of the story, that means that the end should be around chapter 1200, something less than 500 chapters from this chapter. You don't start tying up loose ends there. For the record the difference between the supposed end and the current chapter is around the same the same difference between Luffy fighting Crocodile in Alabasta and the current chapter.

I think birdcage may be a way to control other devil fruit's powers. He could have used law's to save himself.

Okay I'll post my wild speculation of a theory here too -

I think Doffy got himself operated on by the previous Ope Ope No Mei user which might be Korra san and so he can survive despite being cut. Also Korra san was Law's mentor. I know it's wild but anything can happen in One Piece.

Overall, ****ing brilliant chapter, Oda didn't troll and revealed his face, finally! Seems, Oda loves scars. xD
Damn. This week the big 3 have been awesome! One Piece is as awesome as usual.

I just reread the chapter and I'm more and more convinced that the Birdcage has nothing to do with Law's powers. Even many of DD's subordinates were surprised about him starting talking again after the decapitation and it seems only a select few actually know about the Birdcage or the Birdcage is something that's extremely dreadful, but also carries a large risk for the user.

There has to be more about the fruit in the future.. Whether or not sabo only took a lil bite of the fruit because he didnt have enough time or because he never intended on eating the whole fruit in the first place

All you need is a bite. It doesn't matter if you never ate the fruit whole.

You're getting excited over nothing. As Hyperion stated before only a single bite is enough to grant you the fruit's power, after that bite it just becomes a regular (disgusting) fruit. So whether he now ate the Mera Mera no Mi completely or not makes no difference, I also doubt Oda would be wasting panels on Sabo eating the fruit whole when one bite is enough.

This does not need to be proven as Oda, the highest possible authority, himself stated this in his SBS a long time ago:

R: Hey! Hey, it's me! Guess what! Oda-sensei!! I got in an accident, and I need 2 million yen right now!! Can you wire me the money? Also, I have a question. Is it possible for a lot of people to share one single fruit, or not? Can you do that? If so, what happens? Thanks for answering!!

I don't doubt the fact that DD can use a powerful technique on his own, the manga has already confirmed that he is strong enough and he can use many people as puppets to his own likings.
It's just my impression after reading the chapter, due to the name of the technique and the fact that Law didn't want to get uncuffed and warned Luffy that he might turn against him. The alliance being broken doesn't mean that Luffy is an enemy to Law or that he has to fight him, cause they still have the same goal. Of course that can also means that Law is aware that DD can control him and turn him against Luffy and co. Adding this to the fact that DD's personality is quite sadistic he might want to use Law (alone or in a collaboration with him) as a punishment for his betrayal.
On the other hand it might just be the obvious, that's a technique that Law witnessed on action or even it was used against, hence he's being socked/scared.

Bird Cage might be the ability to take over other DF abilities, not just Law's. In this instance he used Law's, but back in the day, he would have used other people's. If Law experienced this kind of manipulation before, he could still be horrified to see it happen again, specially now that his powers are so much greater.

The other explanation is that, even though Law had to train to get to this point, the potential was always there. Maybe Doflamingo's bird cage was just DD being better at his power than him, and making it truly horrible.


Though, I feel like bird cage is just having the entire room absolutely brimming with strings. It means he has absolute control over everything in the room, including who lives and who doesn't, how they live. Even if someone is to lose a head, it will only follow through if he allows it to. That sort of all-powerful technique is something quite in character with his DF, and something quite horrifying to experience, thus Law's expression.
