Why didn't Itachi go and tell the Third about what that a**hole Danzo did?

But then again, the Third wouldn't do shit as usual.

Because Hiruzen couldnt have done anything about it. You have to remember two key things:

The leaf already distrusts the Uchiha and Shisui's mission was to stop a coup de tat

Had Itachi told Hiruzen, even if Hiruzen had tried to take action against Danzo, the village would see it as Hiruzen siding with the Uchiha who were already planning on attacking the village. Not to mention the anger the Uchiha would've had upon finding out that Danzo, a leaf counsel member, attacked one of their own own of suspicion and the fact they were using Uchiha against them in the first place.

Had Itachi opened his mouth a war would've broke out the next day

Pretty much this. It was actually a smarter decision to not tell him. That and Hiruzen appointed Danzo to be his advisor and they had known each other for over 50 years. Considering that Hiruzen has been friends with Danzo for that long, don't you think that he knows what type of person he is by that time, even better than Itachi does? Hiruzen knew the type of things Danzo was doing, he just thought it needed to happen to provide a balance in Konoha.

you also have to remember Danzo is Hiruzens oldest friend. Even if he does distrust him he still wants Danzo on his side. Itachi is the smartest Uchiha we have seen so far and he just now received his MS. Informing Hiruzen in that meeting about danzo would then let danzo know that Itachi had the other eye.

Despite his reputation, Hiruzen was a passive man... He could never win against Danzo as far as the argument matters...

Off topic:
This was a filler, still it bluntly showed that Itachi was on Kakashi's team... Wasn't Itachi something like the commander in chief of the ANBU???
Actually, I never thought that Itachi was something like that despite Kakashi mentioned that he had his own team at age 13...
IMO Itachi had his team but Kakashi was a bit senior... And he only warned the other 3 at there battle against Itachi/Kisame because at that time ANBU were really something to be worry about and to be a captain was extra-ordinary...
