Madara didnt seem to notice Naruto coming to save Gai so he's really that fast .Godou dama is a really fast technique. Remeber a few chapters ago Obito couldnt even Kamui in time to get out of the way. Then Gai shows up with the gates open to save Kakashi. Naruto pretty much did the same for Gai.
