The way I see it, The battle between Madara and Naruto + Sasuke needs to top all battles, it must surpass all battles, including The Sage and his brother vs the Juubi as well as Kaguya vs the world. In order for this to happen, the collective power of all the participants in the battle must surpass the power of the collective power of all the participants in the previous battles, so lets break it down:
From what we can gather, let's assume the sage before becoming the ten tails jin has the power of half the juubi

Battle between Kaguya and the world
If we assume Kaguya has the power of 10 sages, then
Kaguya = 10 Hagoromos = 5 Juubis
The world = negligible
Total powerscale for this battle: 5 Juubis

2)
Battle between Sage of Six Paths, his bro vs the Juubi
SO6P = 0.5 Juubis
His brother = 0.5 Juubis
Juubi = 1 Juubi
Total powerscale for this battle: 2 Juubis

Battle between Madara vs Naruto + Sasuke
Madara =~ 0.942 Juubis
Sasuke = 1/2 Sage's power = 0.25 Juubis
Naruto = 1/2 Sage's power = 0.25 Juubis
Total powerscale for this battle: 1.442 Juubis
calculations for Madara's power are as follows:
Juubi = 1
Each tailed beasts = 1/9 = 0.111111
0.111111*8 = power of Ichibi through Hachibi = 0.88888
Power of half of 9 tails = 0.111111 x 0.5 = 0.05555
0.88888 + 0.05555 = 0.9444
Obito stole part of Ichibi and Hachibi, so let's assume he took a tenth of their chakra each,
so 0.111111 x 0.1 x 2 = 0.0222222
0.9444 - 0.0222222 =~ 0.942
I used a lot of rounding to get estimates, pretty much all of these numbers had repeating decimals

As we can see, The battle between Naruto and Sasuke versus Madara won't be able to surpass the power of the battle between SO6P and his brother versus the Juubi or Kaguya versus the world.
So far we've seen that each successive arc has final battles that are much stronger than the previous. Orochimaru vs Naruto was on a far lower powerscale than Pain vs Naruto which was on a far lower powerscale than Obito controlling the 6 Jinchurikii vs Naruto and Gai and Kakashi. Therefore, the next battle must surpass all previous! However the numbers show that the current powerscale is lower! so how will this be fixed?
Through more powerups. However, at this point all the Juubi's power has been used to power up Madara, so no more powerups from it, and The Sage is giving what's left of his power to Naruto and Sasuke so no more of his power ups either. The only thing left is the Shinju fruit, which from what we've seen so far is much more powerful than the Juubi's. Somehow, Madara will get the Tree to produce the fruit and eat it, this would give him another powerup so that his total power = 0.942 + 5 = 5.942 Juubis. Then the total powerscale of the battle will surpass all before it! This would make a lot of sense.
But you might be wondering how Sasuke and Naruto defeat Madara at that point. Well, there are 3 options:
1) Madara only eats part of the fruit, (kinda like a devil fruit, it doesn't matter whether you eat one bite or swallow the whole thing, either way you will recieve its power) and Naruto and Sasuke eat what's left, giving them each the equivalent to the power of 2.5 Juubi's, increasing the powerscale of the battle again
2) Talk no Jutsu
3) The alliance actually does something, and lends Naruto and Sasuke their power. An epic jutsu is performed (perhaps, Hashirama makes shinsuusenju, Naruto coats it in 9 tails chakra and gives each hand a TBB and Sasuke puts another coating of Perfect Susanoo on it and gives each hand a susanoo sword, now it is a walking foretress, towering over mountains, carrying one thousand susanoo swords each piercing a massive tailed beast bomb, and Madara is defeated very symbolically, in that it was very similar to how hashirama took him down originally) and everyone lives happily ever after.
I know I made a lot of assumptions, but what do you guys think?
