Was Madara given the Rinnegan?

We all know Madara gained the Rinnegan when he was close to dying but why? Why when he was about to die did he awaken it? We know that Sasuke was able to meet the So6P once he was about to die (after he had Senju DNA put inside him, not confirmed if that even matters) and is about to be given a powerup. Is it possible that Kaguya/So6P/So6P Brrother made an appearance and gave him that power to either continue the infinite tsukuyomi plan, or a mistake that So6P made thinking that he would/was a good person wanting to bring true peace to the world.

I don't think madara met the sage because he would have said that instead of referring to the uchiha tablet as his only knowledge of the sage. However, I do think that the sage gave him the rinnegan indirectly since it was a long time until madara got the rinnegan but even that is an assumption even with the last chapter and the scans above could be interpreted many ways and is very vague and subtle.

by ”bringing out my chakra" that could be the same thing as what Sasuke and Naruto did, summoning him or how ever you would like to call it. He doesn't say how he gained it, maybe he doesn't want to admit that he gave it to him because then Naruto and Sasuke could possibly not trust him, thinking that he is the direct reason behind Madara's plan and they could be falling into his trap.
