Neji is a genius, that doesn't automatically mean his a prodigy.
Rock Lee pulled off Eight Gates at a really young age, there aren't many who can do that. Possibly no one at all.
He trains 24 round the clock non stop, if a kid like that doesn't deserve a prodigy title, neither does Itachi.
He fought against an Jinchuuriki and Sharingan for crying out loud.
