Please read the below scan. The Shinju uses humans as a power source and keeps them alive like in the Matrix movie, if you ask me. Literally they are all slaves to the Genjutsu but the Shinju will never let them die which would make the whole technique's purpose void.

As I said before, Infinite Tsukuyomi will occur, but it won't last forever. Kishi might make 20 to 30 chapters on Infinite Tsukuyomi, break the genjutsu and then focus on the Shinju's fruit. As Tsukuyomi has time warping abilities the genjutsu might last for ten hours maximum which is not a huge amount of time in the real world. But in Infinite Tsukuyomi, those ten hours can be stretched to a huge amount of time.

The Mecha world is just an assumption made by me but it would be Cliche in my opinion if in Infinite Tsukuyomi, the world is modelled after the ninja world.
