Edward is small for his age, standing at only 149 cm (4'11"), despite his attempts to appear taller. He wears his golden-blond hair long - usually tied in a braid that hangs down to his shoulders, but sometimes forgoing the braid for a simpler ponytail. He parts his bangs in the middle so that they frame his face on either side as they fall and, in the center of the parting, he leaves a single strand of hair sticking up like an antenna. It is revealed that he does this intentionally, presumably to add to his height. Ed's eyes, too, are gold colored signifying his ancestry.
Edward has a scarred arm and leg due to an accident he had with Ninjutsu, he covers his right arm with a steel gauntlet and also his left leg with a steel boot, these were created so that they fit around his legs perfectly and comfortable, the steel is also thin so when he wore clothes over them you could not tell he was wearing the steel beneath.

Personality
On the surface, Edward displays an immature sort of personality. He is decidedly stubborn and strong-willed, frequently letting his pettiness and vindictiveness get the better of him (it is this stubbornness that contributes to Führer Bradley's decision to codename him "Fullmetal", as "Hagane" (literally meaning "steel") is a term in Japanese that denotes someone of obstinate disposition); he is somewhat selfish and remarkably self-absorbed, generally acting more out of self-interest than any sort of philanthropy as well as taking several opportunities to stroke his own ego or flaunt the monetary license of his military position. He is largely hostile towards figures of authority and feels little incentive to follow orders with which he disagrees, earning him the distinction of being a loose cannon of sorts. Edward is also rather quick-tempered, resorting more often to steel-fisted violence than calm negotiation to settle disputes (even going so far as to suggest that refraining from hitting a female thief because of her gender is a sexist notion and, therefore, against his principles). He has a reputation for being foul-mouthed and is an incurably sarcastic cynic, only too happy to bluntly and harshly relieve others of their comfortable delusions regarding god, reality, or their own self-importance. Edward has also displayed a propensity towards impatience and an inability to sit still for long, which perhaps contributes to his love of travel.
However, for those few people who have made an impact on him, Ed shows his deeper nature to be one of marked selflessness, unflinching loyalty and great compassion. As someone who has had to suffer greatly at such a young age, Edward cannot ignore the true suffering of others and becomes sympathetic upon sensing pain and resolve in people's hearts. Though his solemn advice to such people is often tempered with brusque criticism, it is only because he genuinely wishes to place them on the most direct path forward. As one who has to struggle with a maimed body, he urges those with healthy bodies to use their strong legs to move forward, and as one burdened by the mistakes of his past, he stresses the necessity of people taking responsibility for their own errs. Though he will intervene on behalf of the oppressed if he concludes that a situation has called for it, Ed tends to help only those with the will - but not the means - to help themselves, in which case his recklessness and disdain for authority often has him bending the rules to dole out a Robin Hood-esque justice in accordance with his strong belief in the concept of Equivalent Exchange, earning him notoriety and popularity as a "hero of the people".

Of course, the most noticeable of Edward's dispositional characteristics is his Napoleonic denial of his shortness. Even in moments of relative composure, any and all references to his stature cause him to violently lose control of his emotions and lash out both verbally and physically. Distinctive to these outbursts is Ed's tendency to take even the most casual mention of his height as a gross insult and interpret it exaggeratedly, mistaking words as simple as "small" for phrases as contrived as "so-tiny-that-he-need-not-fear-being-crushed-by-a-boot-because-he-fits-so-easily-between-the-grooves-of-the-sole" and the like. Those unfortunate to utter the word "small" in his presence are fated to suffer one of his vindictive tantrums. Though Edward proudly professes that he does not believe in gods, his spiritual sensibilities tend more toward the agnostic than the atheistic; in private, though he does not pray, he frequently acknowledges the existence of a god in his speech, if only to justify why it is that his life has been so difficult.
Ed's aesthetic sensibilities are also quite twisted in that he is a great fan of gothic or macabre fixtures and will usually transmute decorations filled with monstrous or demonic imagery and unnecessarily gaudy details, much to the dismay of anyone who receives a gift or service from him. He has also made it known that his trademark red coat is part of this general lack of taste, as it is "a badass color [that] gets the blood going".

Background Information
Edward was born in the Village Iwagakure, his Mother was named Trisha and his Father was named Hohenheim - he was a powerful Shinobi who could use the Steel KG. The problem was that Edward never got to see his father Hohenheim as he traveled too much and never visited them, it made Ed's mother sad and he hated his father for that. About a year after Ed was born, Trisha has another son and named him Alphonse - the two brothers became very close with the absence of their father and tried to teach themselves Ninjutsu after finding their father's study. They both could do simple Earth Ninjutsu tricks and showed their mother little constructs they made using this new found knowledge, at first she was worried they would delve to far into danger learning this stuff, but in the end she praised them and their knowledge - loving any gift she was given by them and treasured it. One day, Trisha fell very sick and was confined to her bed, Edward and Alphonse tried their best to help her - it was futile, she died later on and the brothers had to live with their Foster Auntie Pinako and her Granddaughter Winry Rockbell - who is their childhood friend.

Edward and his brother continued to teach themselves Ninjutsu, one day they heard that a freak storm has destroyed a dam in a small village not far from where they lived, they went to investigate, trying to use their Earth Ninjutsu to stop the water flow - but it was too weak. A passing housewife used her Ninjutsu to stop the water flow, Ed and Al were in awe of her skill and requested her to teach them and so she did - she told them to survive on a deserted island with just a knife and after they succeeded she taught them further Ninjutsu - including Taijutsu.

Edward and his brother returned to Pinako's residence after their training was complete, and decided to use what they knew to try and bring back their mother. They returned to their home and tried to revive her, this didn't work out and caused Edward's right arm and left leg to become maimed - whereas his brother Alphonse's whole body was maimed and it resorted to him having to where Armor to cover it up, Edward had a gauntlet and boot especially made for him by Winry. Ed then made it his goal to find a way to heal his brother so his body would go back to normal - afterwards a man named Roy Mustang approached Edward and Alphonse and offered them to become Shinobi for Iwagakure and they accepted, this gave them a bigger chance and finding a way to be able to heal their bodies.

After officially becoming a Shinobi of Iwagakure, Edward climbed the ranks at a young age which allowed him to go out and investigate the Ninja World at 16. Alphonse always stuck with his brother and they went to Amegakure first after hearing of a Dojutsu called the Rinnegan - whilst there he learned about the Rain Element and trained under a shinobi nicknamed The Blind Shinobi and mastered the skill in the month he was there. He couldn't find the Rinnegan user and instead headed to Sunagakure after hearing about a kinjutsu healer of great skill. Edward is now staying with a man named Ling and his two companions/guards, hoping to be able to find this healer of great power...

Steel KG
Edward Elric is a Steel User, he was born in Iwagakure and is capable of creating steel through the elements of Earth and Fire. He still needs training in his Kekkei Genkei before he can master it fully.
Earth and Lightning
Edward if a specialist in both the Earth and Lightning elements, he can use all of his Earth Techniques with only a single hand seal needed. His lightning techniques can be used with much Faster hand seals.
Taijutsu
After training with his brother - Alphonse and sensei - Izumi, Edward become very strong and can fight really well in close combat. Ed has been trained in a lot of other fighting styles other than Taijutsu as well, but in this he is most proficient, often resorting to using his metal fist to punch someone.
