Recent episodes in the world have shown that China still has some tension with the Western world, but it seems that it is starting to think about approaching the West.

Overall China is great economic partner for the west.
China is the second largest economy and it will try to catch up with US like everyone and the gap is too wide
No matter the relation China will devolop its military trying to be the best and on par with US.It is rapidly advancing its navy and US try to be on top and devolop counter measures as always.
The more close China gets to west the more access to weapon markets

China will end up being a Rook in Putin's plan.

It will be a one time use thing, though. China's leadership is arrogant and disconnected from a lot of realities - no the least of which is economics. Their nation will fall to riots and a grass-roots free market uprising not long after they make any serious military actions against the U.S. or commit to the more destructive forms of economic warfare.

They are just as broke (if not more so) than the U.S. is - and their military, while advancing quite rapidly, is nowhere near the capability that the U.S. has. They'll get *****-slapped across the Pacific for messing with the Philippines, or something - and that will be the end of that.

But until then - they'll stand as the paper tiger the Bear uses to pin our available movements. He's closing a stranglehold on Europe, and he's making sure we're not in much of a position to intervene when the former soviet states begin to fall to coercion.

Nice point of view
