How long do Artists usually remain popular/at the top?

If you're confused by the title, allow me to clearify. I'm asking how many years does a artist who is really popular hold their popularity until it fades away?

For example, Elvis Presley was #1 1956-1962 then went into movies which faded his popularity. So he was extremely popular for 7 years

The Beatles were #1 1964-1970 (1970 they broke up). So they were huge for 7 years.

How many years do most artists maintain their popularity? Like Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Back Street Boys, Green Day, just regular musicians like that. Like what, 4 years, 5 maybe?

Lil Wayne IMO is faded out.

Mylie Cyrus is only famous because she's infamous for certain reasons.

Perhaps as long as they keep making popular hits?

It all depends on how good their work is , the loyalty from the fans & what are the actions outside of what they're known for , it works for some & not for others .

depends on who it is....certain people like in hip hop lets say they get like 3 to 10 years if they not one hit wonders....like drake will be here as long as he wants so is kendrick...but a french montana? only a few years

It depends on the artist and if they can stay true to their style without changing it to make money with what's popular. Usually when artists dish out whatever will make them the most money is when they fall off, because something new will come and change the market.

So usually the artists that stay true to their artform have the best careers. One because they have their own style which will evolve and change as they do, and two the fans who got them to popularity will be pleased.

Well that depends on their contract. Usually contracts consist of a certain number of albums in a certain amount of years. Most artists that were really popular and you don't hear from anymore fulfilled their contract obligation and didn't want to or weren't offered another contract.

So basically there isn't a certain number of years for popularity it all depends on the contract and what I said in my previous post.

I like both to some degree. I feel like the Beatles were more artistic and expressive while Elvis was a better performer with a great almost iconic baritone voice.

As for the mainstream today I think its in a void/transition period were it needs artists to shake things up. There has also been a switch from how fans listen to music which makes s difference. Where in past generations the Indie/underground fans liked artists and would buy anything they put out just because they were fans. Now its switched were mainstream fans buy anything an artist releases regardless of what it sounds like which effects the quality of the music, artists won't try as hard because they'll make money off of their fans no matter what they release.

Where in past era mainstream artists would have to come with a really strong album to keep their fans, which results in them trying harder to top themselves and better music being made.

For popular artists, usually a few years since they're all mostly garbage anyway. Though that Beethoven guy's been really popular for a while now. For the record , about two hundred years, if you were wondering that is.

For however long they produce hits. After that, they become novelty acts

If they're hypebeasts like Waka then a good couple months, maybe a year. Then they'll dissappear and pop back up with something good. Then disappear again.

If they're lyrical like Kendrick they'll probably stick around.
If they're a part of the new wave like Asap then the same as Kendrick but more low key.

If they're geniuses or have stories and offer something new like Wayne, Eminem or Jay/Kanye then they'll be here for a while but that takes time to develop.

As you can see I mainly listen to rap I am laughing.
