UPDATED : Fixed and removed parts for medical purposes.
So this is going to be a super short theory and its going to be easy to swallow.
In part 1 the plot is essentially filler. It was the
appetizer to the main course per say.
In part 2 the plot is clear, there are 2 goals :
1 - Defeat the Akatsuki
2 - Save Sasuke Uchiha
The 1st goal is achieved and the 2rd goal is somewhat
achieved.
For the most part, all of the members of the Akatsuki were
fodder except Itachi and Tobi. They are fodder in the fact
that they were completely irrelevant the plot and just
serve as a temporary strong enemy.
Itachi for the most part is in the top 5 of the most plot
relevant characters in Naruto. Had it not been for his
massacre of the Uchiha, Konoha would of been enveloped in
a Civil + Shinobi World War and ended up in the
destruction of the village. His actions were justified. He
ended up giving Sasuke his MS via his death and his EMS
through the transplantation of his own eyes. Tobi however,
plays another important role. Tobi, otherwise known as
Obito, was to carry out the plans of Madara, the
reincarnation of Indra.
The goal was the Moon's eye plan. Become the Juubi's
Jinchuuriki and project one's eyes off the moon and place
everyone under a permanent Genjutsu, creating what one
would call a Dream World. A world where everyone is a
winner, no problems, no worries, no war, no hatred.
Obito had succeeded in attaining the Juubi. Unfortunately, instead of
teleporting somewhere safe and beginning the Moon's Eye plan
he just ends up doubting himself and losing.
So unfortunately he failed. Then Madara gets his hands on it after
being revived.
He has his eyes on the prize.
Wrong.
Now you may ask, what next?
There is nothing next, nothing before, and nothing now.
Kaguya had already accomplished the Moon's Eye plan long ago.
What we are seeing is merely a distorted world and Kaguya's little story she made up. The story of a boy who dreamt of becoming Hokage, saving the world and gaining the trust of the world, saving his friend, and becoming Hokage. What a wonderful ending..
