Like the title said, Naruto said that he knows the meaning of "Friends" more clearly and he wants to protect them all.
Whereas Sasuke has different ideas and he, with his open heart, expressed them to Hagoromo.

There are two possibilities.
ONE : Hagoromo had not other option but to have faith in them and give away the power ups to both to stop Madara. It's like a gambling thing. No other options left.

TWO : He agreed to Sasuke's answer and apologized Indra (Sasuke ) for not paying more attention on him.

Meaning, the answers that Naruto and Sasuke gave must have some connection to each other But not the same answer. And that's why Hagoromo agreed to give both of them the power ups. And like Naruto thanked Hagoromo for believing in them, Hagoromo really believes in the current reincarnations of his sons' chakra and entrusted the power ups. And also he knows that no matter what happens in the future there won't come a time when they ignore the main aim of their existence.
Because Unlike Madara those two has no intention of eating the fruit or using the Infinite Tsukuyomi for their own selfish reasons.

Thoughts?
Man, As a Naruto fan, I've become Sasuke's Fan as well (not fanboy Lol) Now there's a reason to be his fan after this chapter. ;)

Maybe the Sage just knows that they'll both be there to check each other...

I think that he just wants the two of them to decide for themselves so even if Sasuke's answer was not something truly good,Hagoromo decided to trust Sasuke too also mainly for his son Indra.
After all if Sasuke is untrustworthy as usual Naruto will stop him,so Hagoromo will be satisfied either way.

I'm really interested to see how Sasuke's convo with the sage went down. At the end of the day the sage could have gone with a 3rd option as well.
3) Entrusts Naruto with changing the world (the whole saviour thing) but also just gives Sasuke an equal power up since he said that his favouritism towards Ashura was what started this mess. Even if Sasuke doesn't have the ideal goals, the sage trusts Naruto enough to sway him back to a neutral position (i.e. referencing the last bit where naruto is talking about their friendship).

Sasuke's answer might make us see the manga and the story from a whole different perspective. Since Kishi's so focussed on hiding Sasuke's answer and let naruto gave away his answer so easily.

I totally agree. The fact that Hagoromo is giving them the power up is proof that he entrusts the world(and beating Madara) to them.

I think Naruto being a little different from the previous incarnations is the 'key point'...

That difference changed Indra's incarnation too, and Sage saw that change, apologized and placed his new hopes upon them...

I agree with your point. We still dont know what sasukes true intentions are?. But I guess it will work out the way naruto mentioned (repair the broken bond or something like that).

Beating Madara & Stop Mugen/Eternal Tsukuyomi is a main objective now... if not everybody will become a part of God Tree & left Madara lonely leaving in the world..

because of that part where laments not having believed in Indra as well, i felt like it was more of a half hearted way of trying to redeem his past failure as a parent by simply validating the both of them with words and not necessarily because he truly felt that way. I mean much of the chapter and the convo was about how he was bestowing his blessings on Naruto for being the current Ashura incarnation even when Sasuke was right there in front of him.

i'm sorry, if i was the sage i would not entrust sasuke with great power. he may be fighting for good now, but knowing his history that could change at the drop of a hat. i figure he gave it to him because of what he said about no one person having to much power over everyone else.
