I am failing to see why because Kaguya had byakugan it means Hinata will play some significant role. There's nothing wrong with Kishi giving us a history lesson showing the dojutsus and not having any intention of developing the hyuga currently.

It hasn't been 100% confirmed. For all we know she's like Kakuzu with a blank iris eyes and they happen to be a light hue. Though it is highly likely.

It was never stated that byakugan came before sharingan.

Well firstly, Kakashi mentions the Hyuga are Konoha's oldest clan. Since we know it isn't literally the oldest clan amongst Konoha's clans.... it infers they are even older than that of the Uchiha Clan itself

As for Hinata... hard to say. If she does anything against Madara it isn't like she herself is going solo mode. She's capitalizing on opportunity and doing something that will not truly defeat Madara, but probably stage later defeat. I'm certain even if she did hit him to stop chakra flow he'd find a B.S. excuse to negate it.

I find it more likely she helps deal with Spiral Zetsu Yamato.

they said the Byakugan came before the sharingan but as we all can see Insura was born with the sharingan.
so that means that Kaguya had the Byakugan and if so does that mean that Hinata will be able to play a bigger role in taking down madara?

Hinata has the duty of righting Kaguya's sin. She will deal with the Fruit in a way that brings peace to the God Tree. Perhaps merely her consuming it without it being in a quest for power (but out of responsibility to defend it) will fulfill her destiny.

Playing off of the Princess Kaguya reference, it may be possible that Hinata will become 'snared' by the Juubi and 'reborn' to be Kaguya (who was found in a glowing bamboo shoot, according to legend).

There are a number of different ways it can play out - but it would seem a foregone conclusion that Hinata, as a descendant of the Otsutsuki, deal with the fruit per her shared destiny with Naruto.
