Naruto saved the village from Pein single handedly. He did something even the elite jonin of the village like Kaskashi (a Kage prospect) and the current Hokage failed to do. Yet he's still a genin? Are the chunin exams more challenging than real world application of skills? In the miliary there are such things as battlefield promotions. I think Naruto should've at least been promoted to chunin for valor and defending the village as the last man standing who could.
At this point the chunin exams are just a formality and don't really access or gauge the full potential of a person's skills. Sasuke is another example.
What do you think. Should ninja be awarded battlefield promotions? Not just for extreme cases like Naruto vs Pein, but other incredible difficult missions where espionage, tactics, skill and critical thinking are essential.
