Naruto and Sasuke's power up to come from within?

So as we have seen today Naruto is the reincarnation of Ashura while Sasuke is obviously Indra's reincarnation. Taking this into consideration I was wondering if this would mean that their new power ups would be obtained through them realising the power of their past lives. Maybe this is one of those instances where it was something always dormant inside them. It is obvious that all these 'ass pull' power ups thus far by the 2 were destined to happen.

However now I think there is a good chance that their final power up will be earned independently or with the sage's intervention. He could probably unlock the power within them or something. This would be like Kikyo and Kagome from Inuyasha ; power from her past life.

Another thought that dawned on me is the role of senju cells with respect to sasuke and tailed beast chakra with naruto.
What if the senju cells power up sasuke's eyes and chakra to the point that he reaches the level of the elder son. Similarly what if the chakra obito stole from madara, when added to naruto's own gives him the power of the younger son?

Additionally, would the latest developments put an end to the rinnegan theory for sasuke and naruto?

I agree, I believe the most logicall power up for naruto at this point would be to:
-"awaken" and connect with all of his incarnations. Similar to the avatar state.
