The beginning was really interresting because it actually focused primarily on kakashi but then it wen't slightly downhill. Yamato's backstory could've been way better if it only lasted for 1 or 2 episodes but they decided otherwise...
They decided to drag his back story for too long and that is why people (including me) got slightly fed-up of the arc. The next episodes are said to introduce itachi so things may get interresting again afterall but, heh, who knows what can happen.
Overall, I'd say that this arc is way better than the ones we've had before, it just kinda overstayed it's welcome. For me it's a hit and miss, there are some nice episodes but there are some equaly bad ones. The double episode for instance was a missed opportunity and all it did was drag yamato's back story which was already not that interresting to begin with.
I'd say that the main problem of the arc is that it wants to focus on too many characters at once while neglecting the actual point of the arc. An arc which was supposed to be based primarily on kakashi and as a result you get episodes that don't even show kakashi at all (maybe a few scenes here and there).
Watch it if you don't have anything to do but don't expect anything groundbreaking (save a few episodes maybe like the first ones). It still is a nice arc which, when it actually focuses on kakashi, gives some good insight on kakashi's childhood during the aftermath of rin's death.
That is my take on the current arc.
@FuzzyPanda: Unfortunately, the anime only comes back next week. This week, it is on break.
