Well, i was recently playing this amazing snes game, Chrono trigger (for like 50th time)... i don't know if you people had the oportunity to play it... maybe your are not "old" enough xD.
A lot of RPG games have the following "configuration", according to this screenshot:
The main Character (Crono): The strongest of all, the story advances arround him the 90% of the game. He have the strongest attacks, a lot of HP, and you will have it in your party at the end of the game.
His "Friend" (Lucca): You have the choice of switching this character but you won't... He is the next one in the list of the strongest... usually use a different element from the main character to attack... If the main character have "lightning", this character have "fire" (Chrono trigger case)
The healer (Marle): There's always a healer in every RPG game, it's usually a female... You always carry a heal in your party, because without her, you die. Yes, she can attack too, but she maybe won' be strong enough to inflict several damage, so your choice is to use this character for healing.
Why do i say this??... i was reading chapter 634, when every member of team 7 summons their respective creatures... what happened then? Naruto and sasuke attacked with their respective element nature, wind and fire, (in RPG games we see a lot that this two characters combine their elements to make an stronger attack), while she, the female, takes care of the healing:
