What's your opinion on the Uchiha massacre?

Danzo is a douche. Because of him many innocent Uchiha (non Coup d'état supporters) died, Shisui was killed, and Itachi and Sasuke's lives were ruined.

I'm also disappointed in Hiruzen. Thousands of people died because he didn't eliminate Danzo. Hiruzen also always talked about peaceful approaches but he never backed up his words with action. He could have talked to the Uchiha personally and tried to reach an agreement.

Fugaku didn't know what was best for his clan by putting them against all of Konoha. Trying to overthrow the Konoha government meant fighting against Root, the regular military, ANBU, citizens, and the Hokage himself. It was a suicide mission.

There were a lot of cowards on all sides not doing what was necessary to reach an agreement.

Yes, Hiruzen did act like a ***** when it came to Danzo.

Even though Itachi is my favourite character, I wouldn't put all of the blame on the elders since Itachi did have the mental capacity to think things through.

Basically this. It sucks what happend to Itachi. Effing Danzo had to Eff everything up for everyone. Oh whell, that's what makes him such a great character i guess.

Nobody really moved in when Pain attacked or when Orochimaru attacked however. It could've happened then though, most of the countries were dicks.

I do believe both sides were in the wrong, the Uchiha were to hasty and Konoha failed to act and when they did it was too harsh.

But Danzo went behind his back and ordered Itachi to kill the Uchiha when Hiruzen wanted to resume talks with them. Hiruzen wasn't as involved in this as other incidents.

@bold Sand was already trying to destroy them.
@italic the summit was called because of the akatsuki being a bigger threat.

Even after the Summit Onoki's Grand daughter suggested Killing Both Naruto and Bee to tip the Balance of Power, so yea it could have been possible for a other Village to take advantage of the situation seeing that the Mist and Leaf were still have a few skrimishes.

The Pain thing all happened in one day, and all the Shinobi forces were still alive and well (Rinne Tensei) it was just that all their buildings were destroyed. Not to mention the Akatsuki was a threat to all shinobi lands, and they wouldn't want to mess up a relationship with one of the strongest villages with the most intel on them.

As for after the Orochimaru thing, Suna would have quickly come to Konoha's aid if any villages did try to infiltrate Konoha as a way to make amends for being tricked into turning against Konoha.

Hiruzen was well aware of what Danzo was though. As Hokage Hiruzen was responsible for keeping everyone safe, and Danzo was by far the biggest threat to Konoha's well being. It was Hiruzen's job to eliminate that threat.
