Who's stronger: Current Lee or Gai when he was Lee's age?

Current Lee (17 years old): Can use 6 gates

OR

Gai (When he was 17)

(I know we don't know that much about young Gai but do you think he was as strong as Lee at 17?)


When do you think Lee will surpass Gai?

we cant possibly tell this.. since we dont know how strong gai was back then at all but gai is litterally teaching everything he knows to lee.. lee who wasnt talented at anything was actually considered a genius by kakashi just because he could open 5 gates at an early age in the chuunin exam..

if he was so surprised at this and considering how well kakashi new gai.. i would say that lee's growth surpasses gai growth..

he hasnt surpassed gai yet but the speed in which rock lee is growing does

Should be Lee. There's the whole concept of the new generation surpassing the old one, and that Kakashi was completely dumbfounded by the fact that Lee could open 5 Gates at the age of 13/14 while knowing Gai from a very young age, so I'd say that from that point on, he was well on his way to surpassing Gai.

Man I've been missing these forums for some months, but I'm gonna drop a comment here.
During the chunin exams, Rock Lee already had 5 gates.
During Gai's exams, when he lost to Kakashi he showed 0 signs of gate use, at best he MAY have used 1-2.

So if Lee >>> Guy at Chunin level, I'm sure he was >>> at 17
